The new trailer for Thor 4 showcases a scene where Jane Foster (played by Natalie Portman) holds the Mjolnir as she finally becomes the Mighty Thor. This moment takes place in a sort of temple, which is full of statues of imposing figures — and one of them looks like the Watcher, who also happens to be the narrator of the animated series What If…?, which was released last year on Disney+. While we do not know the other statues seen in the trailer, however, two of them bear a close resemblance to cosmic denizens Living Tribunal and Death.

In What If…?, the Watcher was voiced by Jeffrey Wright, analyzing each episode of the series before involving himself in the storyline by the first season’s end. What If…? aired in 2021 and was met with mixed reviews from critics and fans, however, some characters were quite popular to go on to make live-action appearances in the recently released Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. A second season of What If…? is currently underway at Disney, with writer A.C. Bradley confirming that it will air sometime this year.

The trailer also debuted Russell Crowe as Zeus, expanding the MCU’s cosmology, going on to include the Greek Pantheon alongside the Norse. This also comes at a time when the recently finished Moon Knight brought the Egyptian gods into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even making them a focal point of the whole story.

Some reports also claim that Love and Thunder will also introduce yet another deity into the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Bastet, who is an Egyptian cat goddess and also patron of the Wakandan ruling family. Bastet is mentioned as a really important figure in Black Panther and will make her debut in Love and Thunder, portrayed by Akosia Sabet. There were images that show her alongside Portman’s Jane Foster and Valkyrie (played by Tessa Thompson) at a conference hosted by Zeus.

Thor: Love and Thunder will hit the theaters on July 8 while the first season of What If…? is streaming on Disney+ now.
