Tom Cruise’s seventh installment of Mission Impossible saw its theatrical release just 9 days before Barbie and Oppenheimer but succumbed in the race of great movies in the month of July 2023. Despite witnessing great openings, maximum movies could not become part of the race in the long run.

The Indiana Jones franchise came with its fifth chapter in 2023. The action-adventure saw its official flag bearer hang his hat and boots on the doors of the franchise. The die-hard fans of the Harrison Ford starrer franchise went in masses to witness the magic of the legendary actor for the last time on the bigger screen. The theatres were fully packed with audiences and fans after years.

With Oppenheimer and Barbie releasing on the same date in July, Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny and Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 7 had to face the blow of sharing the release date in close proximity with the former movies.

Both Barbie and Oppenheimer broke records like never before and the effect was evident in the box office calculations of the movies that were released around these two projects. The Greta Gerwig-directed fantasy drama not only dealt with the Mattel doll’s point of view but also encompasses gender discrimination and other social issues in our society. The adrenaline-high stunts and the action sequences of Tom Cruise could not do justice to the theatrical run of Mission Impossible 7. 

 

Why Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 7 and Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones Fell Flat At The Box Office?

According to the media outlet Variety, the fifth installment of Indiana Jones was made on a staggering budget of $295 million but could only manage to gross around $375 million at the box office. However, the James Mangold-directed movie could manage to draw the die-hard fans of Harrison Ford. However, the age gap between the audience could not generate the expected revenue at the box office for Indiana Jones and the Dial Of Destiny.
