What To Know About The Controversial Crown Jewels?

King Charles received the St. Edward’s Crown at the Coronation, as is customary in the royal family. St. Edward’s Crown has an ermine band and velvet cap made of genuine gold. The crown is topped with an orb and a cross to symbolize Christianity. It is laced with rubies, amethysts, sapphires, garnet, topazes, and tourmalines. It has 444 jewels, including rubies, sapphires, garnets, and tourmalines, and weighs a total of about five pounds. Experts have estimated that the crown is valued between £3 billion and $5 billion, despite the fact that its exact value has been hotly contested throughout the years.

According to the Royal Family,

“St Edward’s Crown is the crown historically used at the moment of Coronation and was worn by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth at her Coronation in 1953. It was made for Charles II in 1661, as a replacement for the medieval crown which had been melted down in 1649. The original was thought to date back to the eleventh-century royal saint, Edward the Confessor – the last Anglo-Saxon king of England.”

Apart from New Zealand, King Charles III is the monarch and head of state for fourteen sovereign countries, collectively known as the Commonwealth realms — Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Grenada, Jamaica, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent, and the Grenadines, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and the United Kingdom (UK).
