Al Pacino is considered one of the greatest and most influential actors of the 20th century, and despite this fact, he did not earn an Academy Award for one of his best movies The Godfather. Pacino indisputably secured one Oscar in his career but for another movie. Even though the star is one of the main characters in The Godfather, he did not create history.

Remarkably, Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro are the ones who created history by receiving separate Oscars for playing the same role of Vito Corleone in different stages of the film series. The Godfather II is both a sequel and a prequel to the original film that represents parallel storylines, one continuing the tale of Michael Corleone played by Al Pacino, and the other covering the journey of his father Vito Corleone.

Brando and De Niro portrayed Vito Corleone at different stages in the series for which Marlon Brando earned an Oscar for his iconic portrayal of Vito Corleone in the first and original film in the  1972 Academy Awards. Whereas Rober De Niro secured an Oscar in a supporting role for portraying younger Vito Corleone in the same movie The Godfather Part II.

Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro have made remarkable achievements in the history of the Oscars by receiving two different Academy awards for the same role. Another incredible actor, Al Pacino, who received worldwide recognition and critical acclaim for portraying Michael Corleone in The Godfather trilogy fell short of winning an Academy Award which is also considered one of his greatest roles in cinematic history.

However, the actor has had a long and illustrious career with numerous other notable roles.

Al Pacino received his first and only Academy Award for Best Actor for his role of Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade who is a blind retired army officer in the movie Secret of a Woman. The Sacrifice star has landed many Oscar nominations throughout his successful acting career and made a name under one of the most influential actors in Hollywood during the 20th century.

Movies like Dog Day Afternoon, Heat, Serpico, and The Devil’s Advocate are Al Pacino’s other noteworthy projects in which he earned immense appraisals.
