After his ex-wife Amber Heard published an op-ed in the Washington Post, the actor decided to sue her for $50 million in defamation. This decision resulted in a six-week trial at the Virginia County Court. The jury’s verdict was announced as being in favor of the actor and finding the actress responsible for defaming the actor via her op-ed.

Johnny Depp’s Royal Family connection explained
The Disney star Johnny Depp, who was born in Kentucky, has been criticized for claiming to have some Native American ancestry of English descent even though he also has some French, German, and Irish ancestors. His surname originates with a French Huguenot immigrant called Pierre Dieppe who had settled in Virginia in the 1700s.
The actor not only appears to be royal but is related to the Royal Family, as it has been reported that genealogist Nick Barratt found out that the actor and Queen Elizabeth II are descendants of Edward III, making Depp the 20th cousin of the British monarch.
According to Express UK, Dr. Barratt claimed on the BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are? And shared,
“When I examined Johnny’s history I discovered a likely connection to the royal family. I’ve since established the family tree, which demonstrates how. You have to go back more than 500 years to reach the point where his ancestors became royal.”
The genealogist also noted that when he started to dig further he found out that on a branch of his family tree, Depp was descended from Sir William Gascoigne and his wife Margaret Percy, who lived in Yorkshire. Margaret is the daughter of the 3rd Earl of Northumberland, who was the direct descendant of King Edward III.
Barrat told the Daily Mirror at the time via Today, “You have to go back more than 500 years to reach the point where his ancestors became royal.” The actor has never addressed him as being related to the British monarch.
Why did Jason Momoa dress up like Johnny Depp on the sets of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom?
In a recent update from the DC world, it has been reported that online users the day the trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was released published the documents from the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard defamation trial online. The reason for the backlash from the audience is because Amber Heard was still a part of the movie as Johnny Depp was dropped out of some major projects after she published her op-ed stating that she is a public figure representing domestic abuse.
According to Variety, the documents detail the hostile set where allegedly the lead actor Jason Momoa had arrived drunk on set and was dressed up like Amber Heard’s ex-husband Johnny Depp, and pushed to have the actress booted from the role of Mera. The notes by Amber Heard’s therapist which were shown during the trial were published and it says,
“Jason said he wanted me fired. Jason was drunk — late on set. Dressing like Johnny. Has all the rings too.” However, a DC spokesperson was quick to defend the actor and shared a statement, “Jason Momoa professionally conducted himself at all times on the set of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.’”
An insider who was on the set in 2021 via Variety also shared, “Jason works his a** off, likes to have a beer once in a while like everyone, but doesn’t show up drunk to set. And he isn’t dressing like Johnny Depp. He has always dressed in that bohemian style.” Some of the fans also pointed out that the two actors do dress up similarly in a way and Jason Momoa had no intention of dressing up like Johnny Depp.
Amber Heard says she was nearly fired from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom after the Johnny Depp drama
The actress who is going to appear briefly in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom testified last year during the trial that it was because of the drama that followed after Johnny Depp decided to sue her, she was almost fired from the movie and she had to fight hard to save her.
But the ground reality of Amber Heard being nearly fired was because of the lack of chemistry between her and Jason Momoa and it had nothing to do with her being related to Johnny Depp and their legal battle. Heard’s former boyfriend, Elon Musk, is the reason why she is still in the movie.
Variety noted that the X owner had his team send a scorched-earth letter to Warner Bros threatening to burn down the house if Heard was not brought back for the sequel.
