When speaking about Rambo, people will usually envision Sylvester Stallone in his iconic role, but Academy Award winner Quentin Tarantino once revealed what his dream Rambo movie would look like. The Kill Bill director aims to make another film with his own distinctive and unique approach to storytelling in which he aimed to visualize a film much closer to First Blood, the 1972 David Morrell novel that served as the source material for the 1982 film adaptation, co-written by and starring renowned actor Sylvester Stallone.

However, Tarantino would not bring Stallone’s legacy to his project, instead, he wished to cast Adam Driver and Kurt Russell. During a podcast while the director was promoting his novelization of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Via MovieWeb, Tarantino said:

“If I just wanted to make a good movie, that I knew would be good, I would take David Morrell’s novel for First Blood and do the novel. Not the movie that was made out of First Blood. I would do the novel. And Kurt Russell would play the sheriff, and [Adam Driver] would play Rambo. Every time I read it, the dialogue is so fantastic in the David Morrell novel that you’re reading it out loud. It would be so good. But now I want to do more than that. But if it was just about to make a good movie, that’s out there.”

The Inglourious Basterds director disclosed that he wished to cast Adam Driver as Rambo and Kurt Russell as the sheriff in his hypothetical First Blood which could have certainly seized the legacy that Sylvester Stallone holds. Quentin Tarantino’s creative genius, conceptual visions, and casting of his desired actors could have been explored through his dream Rambo project.
