The controversial memoir Spare by Prince Harry has revealed many truths about his life and, in particular, the Royal family. In the book, the Duke of Sussex gave specific details about many aspects of his life. He wrote about his feud with his brother Prince Williams, as well as how he felt when his mother, Princess Diana, died when he was 12 years old.

Prince Harry answered many questions and rumors about himself in this book, including the truth about his military service and the knee injury rumors that said he faked it to escape going to the military.

Prince Harry said the newspapers wrote that he was afraid to join the Military

There were many conjectures formed by the media regarding Prince Harry and one of them was that he was afraid to join the military. Right after the palace announced the news of Prince Harry’s late joining the Military there was a slew of speculations regarding The Duke of Sussex’s late joining reason and his knee injury. Prince Harry explained how the newspapers wrote many lies about him. Prince Harry said,

I couldn’t help savoring one small particle of self-indulgent glee as the papers, for once, unwittingly printed a lie about me. They soon got their revenge, however.”

He further added,

“They began pushing a story that I was afraid to go into the Army, that I was bunking off, using a fake knee injury as a way of stalling. I was, they said, a coward.”

Prince Harry has served in the army for a decade and he went on 2 tours in Afghanistan. He was promoted to the rank of Captain. In the year 2004 in September, the Duke of Sussex completed his education qualification at Regular Commissions Board. This education is required for further training in Sandhurst.

Prince Harry was called Officer Cadet Wales at the Royal Military Academy

In 2005, Prince Harry enrolled at The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst after gaining experience in the RCB. It was a 44-week training course at Camberley in Surrey County. At the Academy, the Duke of Sussex was known as Officer Cadet Wales. This course included both physical training and theory. Prince Harry passed the course, and the Clarence House announced on January 25, 2006, that he will join the Blue and Royals. The Blues and Royals are a British Army cavalry regiment that is part of the Household Cavalry.

Prince Harry was promoted to an Army officer on April 12, 2006, shortly after announcing his intention to join the Blue and Royals. On the 8th of May 2006, Prince Harry joined his unit prior to reporting to The Armour Centre in Bovington, Dorset, to start with the next step of training. The Ministry of Defence confirmed in 2008 that Prince Harry was serving with the British Army in Helmand, Afghanistan after completing all training and courses. On April 13, 2008, Prince Harry was promoted to Lieutenant after two years.
