Canadian-American actor Brendan Fraser stepped into show business in 1990 and made his film debut with a small role as a Seaman in the 1991 movie Dogfight. One of his biggest commercially successful movies was the 1999 fantasy-adventure movie The Mummy in which he played the role of the lead adventurer Rick O’Connell.

Brendan Fraser has starred in numerous other movies and TV series. He appeared as Clifford Steele aka Robotman in the TV series Titans and even showcased his vocal skills as the voice actor for the same character in flashbacks for the spin-off series Doom Patrol. Batgirl, the movie that could have had a lasting impact on the actor’s portfolio, was shelved and recently, the audience has regained their hopes for its release.

Fans Believe Brendan Fraser’s Batgirl Has the Chance of Seeing the Light of the Day

In October 2021, it was announced that Brendan Fraser was cast as the villain Firefly in the DC Extended Universe movie Batgirl, in which Leslie Grace played the titular character. However, in August 2022, Warner Bros. axed the movie due to a change in its priorities. The studio reportedly intended to take a tax write-off on the movie by causing the cancellation of its release.

This cancellation obviously came as a huge blow to the comic book movie fans who were eagerly waiting to watch the movie. Even the actors and creators were heartbroken about it because all of the hard work they had put into the movie had gone in vain and they had no power over it.

Warner Bros. also pulled the plug on the release of the movie COYOTE VS. ACME for a tax write-off. Eventually, the studio had to give in to the amount of backlash and public shaming it faced for doing so and now the filmmakers have the right to shop the movie to other distributors who might be interested.

This has led fans on X (formerly Twitter) to believe that Batgirl still has a chance of getting released even if it might take some time to happen. Some fans also said that the studio has already deleted the movie so its release is not possible. Whether or not Batgirl will come out remains to be seen.

In an interview with Collider, Leslie Grace recalled how she enjoyed filming the fight scenes with Brendan Fraser for the movie. She said:

“In terms of the experience of shooting, we were all so excited for people to see a lot of the action, a lot of the practical shots we did with fire. Our movie was full of practical fire, which was really hard to shoot. Brendan [Fraser], our villain, our Firefly, he was just so outstanding…I felt so blessed to have him as my sparring partner.”

Grace went on to say that there were many great action scenes in the movie in which Brendan Fraser and her beat each other up, but they also hugged in between the takes because The Whale star was really sweet to her.
