Many celebrities were shocked by Elon Musk’s Twitter update about users paying $8 for their blue tick. Now that Musk is putting it into action, many celebrities have lost their blue ticks and have decided to keep their Twitter handles blue tick-free, despite their celebrity status.
Celebrities like Ciara, Halle Berry, Chris Evans, and Lynda Carter have lost their blue tick on Twitter since the update came into action on 1 April 2023.
Lynda Carter explained She will settle for the old-fashioned way
Many renowned celebrities have not paid the subscription fee and have decided to stay without the blue tick mark on Twitter. Lynda Carter who also has a great fan following on Twitter said she will settle for an old-fashioned way as she knows that her fans will still support her on Twitter. The Wonder Woman actress wrote, “No blue checkmark? Okay, we’ll settle this the old-fashioned way.” She posted this Tweet with GIF from her film series Wonder Woman. Carter didn’t hold back and ignited a cold war on Twitter because of the blue tick mark update.
Stars like Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian, and Pope Francis also lost their Twitter Verification mark on Thursday 20 April 2023. Fans are waiting for Justin Bieber and Beyonce to give a statement regarding losing the blue tick. There are still some celebrity users who have not paid for the Twitter blue mark but their blue tick has not yet been taken down.
Author Stephen King Tweeted that he was not paying any subscription fees for the Twitter blue tick mark still his account is verified with a blue tick. In response to the author’s Tweet, Elon Musk wrote, “You’re welcome, namaste.” Musk informed that he was personally paying for many celebrity figures to make sure they have a blue tick.

Ciara says her fans will still check in even without a blue tick
Singer Ciara made it clear in her Tweet that she will not be paying any extra fees for the blue tick mark. In her recent Tweet, after the singer lost her blue tick, she wrote, “Blue check or no check… I know my fans still checkin.” Many celebrities have expressed their disappointment after Musk introduced this update on Twitter in November last year. A statement from Twitter said,
“Starting April 1, we’ll be winding down our legacy Verification program, and accounts that were verified under the previous criteria (active, notable, and authentic) will not retain a blue checkmark unless they are subscribed to Twitter Blue.”
According to reports, only 600,000 of Twitter’s 250 million users have subscribed and paid $8. Musk reportedly took this step in order to profit from the app.
