WGA Strike Ends After Months: Writers Will Reportedly Gain These Crucial Gains After Agreement With AMPTP
Hollywood had been through one of the darkest times with the stringent WGA strike. The Writers Guild of America went on a strike on May 2, 2023, at 12:01 a.m. The entertainment industry was in turmoil as most movies could not witness their theatrical release because they were postponed, and shows were aired on repeat and a long list of issues were faced by the entertainment industry.
The long-standing strike of WGA that plagued Hollywood has reportedly come to an end with an agreement shared between the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers AMPTP and WGA. The announcement was made on social media by the Writers Guild East and Writers Guild West.
What Important Gains Writers Would Be Reportedly Subjected To After The AMPTP Agreement?
The WGA (Writers Guild of America ) announced its decision to end the long-standing strike after finalizing a tentative deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) earlier this week. The strike halted Hollywood and continued for a total of 148 days.
According to the contract, writers are supposed to be the beneficiaries of notable gains. Once the contract is finalized, writers are expected to get a 5% increase in the payment slab with additional increments planned for the upcoming years 2024 and 2025. As reported, the validity of the deal starts from September 25, 2023, to May 1, 2026.
According to the announcement made by the Writers Guild West and Writers Guild East, the strike would officially end just after midnight. Reportedly, the Staff writers and Article 14 writers which includes story editors and executive story editors would also be subjected to an increase in their weekly rate
One of the most significant changes includes that every writer employed in a writing team would be given a pension and as well as health benefits up to a relevant cap.
The WGA strike continued for a long time and impacted the entertainment industry in one of the worst ways as multiple shows were canceled or delayed. Reputed chat shows resorted to airing the previous episodes on television. The WGA strike brought multiple actors and media personalities together standing in solidarity with the historical moment.
Celebrities Who Supported The WGA Strike With Open Arms
The WGA strike was supported by a few prominent names in the entertainment industry. In order to stand in solidarity with the strike, celebrities picketed for the contract in favor of the writers. Actors like Fred Armisen, Comedian Pete Davidson, Tina, and famous chat show host Seth Mayers went out and supported the WGA strike with open arms.

Even the cast members of the magnum opus project of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer supported the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike. During the London premiere of the biographical drama, the actors and the filmmaker left it abruptly and sup[ported the strike by picketing for the cause and standing in solidarity with the creative section of the entertainment world.
As the WGA strike comes to an end, the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) are still going on. The SAG-AFTRA strike started on July 13, 2023.
