Hugh Jackman updated his fans about a new health scare

Hugh Jackman recently took to his Instagram to update his fans about a new health scare. The Australian actor has already fought a long battle with skin cancer since 2013. During the span of 10 years, Jackman has been diagnosed with skin cancer 6 times. In a recent skin checkup, certain things appeared on the tests that the doctors aren’t sure of yet. Jackman said in the video doctor saw these, “little things which could be, or could not be basal cell [carcinomas]“. He further added that the test results will be back in a few days and he will let his fans know.

What is Basal Cell Carcinoma?

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, Basal Cell Carcinoma is the commonest form of skin cancer. Basal Cell Carcinoma takes place when the cells in the topmost layer of the skin start growing uncontrollably. The BCCs grow very slowly and “rarely spread beyond the original tumor site” and that is why they are extremely treatable. The most common cause of this disease is overexposure to the UV rays from the sun. Long exposures to the sun can damage the DNA, therefore, resulting in uncontrolled growth of Basal cells. That is why it is recommended to wear sunscreen even when going out for a short period of time.

Hugh Jackman once referred to himself as the “prime candidate” for skin cancer. Back in 2015 in an interview with People, Jackman talked about his skin cancer. He said, “Being an Australian it’s a very common thing. I never wore sunscreen growing up so I was a prime candidate for it.
