Jennifer Lynn Affleck is one of the most recognizable figures in the entertainment industry.

The 52-year-old American actress, singer, and dancer has mesmerized audiences with her distinctive voice, dynamic dance, and skillful acting on both the stage and in front of the camera. She did, however, also face her share of criticism along with her fame and success.

The Boy Next Door actress details her career’s ups and downs in her Netflix documentary Halftime, with a strong emphasis on her 2020 Super Bowl halftime performance. The star’s feelings about sharing the big stage with Colombian singer, Shakira during the halftime show were discussed in her documentary, which aired on June 14, 2020.

When Jennifer Lopez and Shakira performed at the Super Bowl

The two legends were given a total of twelve minutes to jam out their mesmerizing and memorable performance at the show. The performance’s headliners were none other than JLo and the Columbian singer.

The Marry Me actress outlined her experience of the show in her documentary Halftime. Lopez and her music director Kim Burse were seen planning the 2020 Super Bowl show in the filmJ-Lo said there were “six f*cking minutes” left for her performance. If they take a minute, they will only have five seconds left since their song was only supposed to last for 30 seconds.

“We have to have our singing moments. It’s not going to be a dance f*cking revue. We have to sing our message.”

The main issue with both legends’ performances, however, was allegedly the show’s shoddy scheduling. J-Lo was reportedly upset about the timing of the show, not with the Waka Waka hitmaker. According to her document, the Love Don’t Cost a Thing singer claimed,

“I think, Shakira, what we should have is you should have half the time and I should [have half]. If it was going to be a double headliner, they should have given us 20 minutes. That’s what they should have f—king done.”

Lopez continued, explaining her annoyance, “We have to sing our message.

This task was made more challenging for the star, who wanted to make a strong statement in the limited time slot. As she reported, having two people cover the Super Bowl is the worst idea imaginable.

Did she hate sharing The Super Bowl Halftime stage with Shakira?

It goes without saying that at the time, Shakira and the 52-year-old pop icon performed on the global stage for the famous halftime show. However, the documentary follows J.Lo’s career claims that pairing wasn’t the best. It focuses specifically on the preparation for that halftime show appearance.

Benny Medina, her manager, disagreed and also provided commentary for the documentary. He explained the dramatic choice to position two performers so closely together for the halftime show’s historical context:

“Typically, you have one headliner at a Super Bowl. That headliner constructs a show, and, should they choose to have other guests, that’s their choice. It was an insult to say you needed two Latinas to do the job that one artist historically has done.”

According to Medina, Lopez and the Monotona hitmaker were able to conduct themselves in a professional manner throughout the show. Simply put, neither one desired to perform on stage together, which makes sense! Each of them is a solo artist capable of selling out entire stadiums!
