Amid the reports of celebrities like Dua Lipa, Rod Stewart, and Shakira disassociating themselves from the occasion, reports about Alicia Keys taking off her name from the event has come to the surface.
Alicia Keys Pulled Out from The 2022 Fifa World Cup
The American artist, Alicia Keys has been alleged to pull out of her performance at the last minute in the upcoming 2022 Fifa World Cup which is going to be held in Qatar this year.
The 41-year-old star has reportedly booked to perform in the event and has “resigned at the last minute” however the reason behind her sudden withdrawal is not the country’s human rights controversies.
During a conversation with the Catalan radio station RAC1, the event’s choreographer Barbarana Pons shared that they were moving on with her up “until yesterday.” However, they got involved in an alleged dispute explaining how she had been “fighting” with the singer over her request for piano since “everything is measured to the millimeter”.
However, it has yet to be disclosed whether Keys would initially be performing at the occasion since her name was not publicly announced.
Other Artists Who Pulled Out of This Year’s FIFA World Cup
Amid the speculations of an English singer, Dua Lipa performing at the football tournament, she shut down all the rumors. In her Instagram stories, she addressed the rumors and pointed out the human rights controversy.
“There is currently much speculation that I will be performing at the opening ceremony of the world cup in Qatar. I will not be performing, nor have I ever been involved in any negotiation to perform.”
“I will be cheering England on from afar, and I look forward to visiting Qatar when it had fulfilled all the human rights pledges it made when it won the right to host the World Cup.”
Not just the English pop star, but Rod Stewart refused to be a part of the event even though he was offered a $1 million deal to perform at the occasion. These celebrities are concerned about the country’s treatment of women, migrant workers, and the LGBTQ community.
Meanwhile, many artists have confirmed to perform in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 opening ceremony. The list includes J. Balvin, Robbie Williams, Jason Derulo, Clean Bandit, Sean Paul, Nora Fatehi, Black Eyed Peas, Jungkook of BTS, Nicki Minaj, Maluma, and Myriam Fares.
