“That was a surreal bonus of lockdown. That’s an understatement. It wasn’t like, ’It’s five o’clock, it’s time to try and write a song together.’ It came about from messing around on a piano and singing badly, then being overheard and being, like, ‘Let’s see what happens if we get to the end of it together.’”

Alwyn co-wrote Betty and Exile for Swift’s album Folklore, which won the Grammy Award. The couple started writing these songs during the time of lockdown as a pass time activity. The thing that they thought would be a fun activity became much more than that. The Harriet actor said,
“I mean, fun is such a stupid word, but it was a lot of fun. And it was never a work thing or a ‘Let’s try and do this because we’re going to put this out’ thing. It was just like baking sourdough in lockdown. The Grammy was obviously this ridiculous bonus.”
Alwyn is an English actor who has starred in the well-acclaimed series Hulu and the period drama comedy film Catherine Called Birdy alongside Bella Ramsey. Alwyn won the Grand Prix award last year at the Cannes Film Festival for his film Stars at Noon. The actor has also worked with Taylor Swift on ten songs, including the Grammy Award-winning songs, Exile and Betty. He is more inclined toward acting and has no plans to pursue songwriting as a full-time profession.
Joe Alwyn’s Relationship with Taylor Swift
Joe Alwyn and Taylor Swift started dating in 2016. The couple always kept their relationship private and hardly made any public appearances. The duo was often spotted attending the same award shows, but they never walked the red carpet together. During an interview, Swift talked about her relationship and said,
“If you were in the lavender haze, that meant you were in that all-encompassing love glow. I thought that was really beautiful. I guess, theoretically, when you’re in the lavender haze, you’ll do anything to stay there and not let people bring you down off of that cloud.”
Alwyn also spoke about his private relationship in 2018; saying,
“I’m aware people want to know about that side of things. I think we have been successfully very private, and that has now sunk in for people.”
The couple recently broke up, ending their six-year relationship. According to a source, the separation decision was amicable. Swift is currently traveling for her Eras tour.
