Why Matthew McConaughey Should Become MCU’s Next Green Goblin
It’s been over eight years since The Amazing Spider-Man II hit theaters and Andrew Garfield’s tenure as Spider-Man came to an end. But it wasn’t long before we heard rumblings that Sony wanted Tobey Maguire to suit up one more time. Those rumors didn’t pan out. Now, years later, it appears as though the studio is finally moving forward with the character in its first official Spider-Man reboot, while also setting up additional spinoffs including Venom and Black Cat movies. This could get confusing, but what boils down to the most important thing right now is who will play Norman Osborn.
Matthew McConaughey Could Be The Ideal One To Play Green Goblin
On February 2022, Twitter user @olbkearnobi posted videos of himself speaking in a southern accent as he read Normal Osborn’s memoirs. We have to say we’re impressed by the quality of the deliverable. While there are some inaccuracies when it comes down to his personal motivations, overall it is a fun video that makes you think about how changes in delivery can drastically change a work’s overall character and tone. Matthew McConaughey could be the obvious choice for Marvel’s Norman Osborn. While he may be a bit too old to portray the Green Goblin, his performance in True Detective was one of the best parts of season 1. Additionally, he has the right amount of playfulness to pull it off.

Who Is Green Goblin In Spider-Man Universe?
Norman Osborn has always been a highly important character within the history of Spider-Man. Ever since the 1960s, we have seen the character play with making Norman both a beloved hero and an outright villain, as well as a maniacal threat to Peter Parker and anyone in his orbit. There are very few characters that are more closely related to Spider-Man than Norman Osborn is. This character first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #14 back in 1964. His role in Sam Raimi’s iconic film was greatly important when it comes down to shaping the overall story of Spider-Man into what it is today. He recently made his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home as well.

McConaughey As The New Osborn
If ever Marvel Studios think of undergoing a replacement, Matthew McConaughey could be a perfect choice. Not only is he versatile and charming, but his performances are emotionally deep. He can pull off a smooth operator or a villainous character, such as his role in Dark Tower. McConaughey is great at giving off a dark charm. In the movie Magic Mike, for example, he was the manipulative mentor Dallas.

In Interstellar, he brings heartbreak to the screen with an emotional breakdown that leaves you feeling for him and his character during those scenes in which it seems like nothing will save him from what’s happening in outer space. McConaughey also nails roles that require feelings of mental instability as well as how these feelings affect his ability to do things like hold a stable job. He has done this kind of thing before in films like The Wolf of Wall Street and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri.
With that being said, to see Green Goblin’s last on-screen appearance, Spider-Man: No Way Home is available on VOD platforms.
