X-Men ‘97 Creator Beau DeMayo Absolutely Hates Your Deadpool 3 Idea That Is Now Becoming True
- 'X-Men '97' creator Beau DeMayo shows concern for undermining X-Men after rumors of their appearances in next Avengers movies.
- Channing Tatum's Gambit, Beast and other mutants are rumored to appear in 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Secret Wars'.
- 'Deadpool 3' featured several mutants, but most had minor roles and cameos, which could be harmful if done in MCU.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to bring the epic showdown of its multiverse soon. After introducing new superheroes and reintroducing some old ones, questions about the future of X-Men have emerged as the mutants are yet to be introduced in the MCU properly.
Channing Tatum was recently seen playing Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, and some recent reports about his and other X-Men’s futures have disappointed X-Men ’97 showrunner Beau DeMayo, and the reasons are quite concerning.
Beau DeMayo reacts to the MCU possibly introducing X-Men sooner
After Disney bought 21st Century Fox, it was believed that the introduction of X-Men in the MCU was just a matter of time. However, the MCU had made its long-term plans already and is currently dealing with the multiverse and is focusing on concluding it using Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars are believed to be the end of this multiversal saga, and the latter is expected to be a soft reboot of the whole franchise where some old faces will be retired and some new ones will take their place. However, in this crowded superhero landscape, the future of some X-Men raised some eyebrows.
In a recent Q&A session (via The Cosmic Circus), insider Alex Perez was asked whether some of Fox’s X-Men will be in the upcoming Avengers movies, to which he said,
Charles Xavier and Beast for sure are in it. I heard we’re getting Tatum’s Gambit as well. Outside of that, not 100% sure yet.
Although it might excite many Marvel fans, X-Men ’97 showrunner Beau DeMayo is not one of them. DeMayo took to X and explained that X-Men are a “chance to refresh and revitalize the MCU,” and they should be used for a “much-needed fresh start” instead of just “as life support.”
Ugh, I really hope this isn’t true. #XMen are a chance to refresh and revitalize the #MCU instead of using them as life support and diluting/over-complicating what could’ve been a much needed fresh start. Almost as desperate as Beast’s cameo in The Marvels 😮💨 https://t.co/IQMuPWOCWe

DeMayo also gave an example of Beast’s cameo in The Marvels, calling it a “desperate” attempt. Talking about that, since it was shown that Monica Rambeau was stuck in another universe where she met Beast, Doomsday or Secret Wars will find a way to bring them back, as Rambeau is anyways from the main MCU’s Earth-616.
For Charles Xavier, the writers will possibly need to show a new variant from the multiverse, as Patrick Stewart’s Professor X was shown dead earlier in Doctor Strange 2. And Ryan Reynolds earlier shared a deleted scene of Deadpool 3 where Channing Tatum‘s Gambit was seen smiling at a portal, which hinted at his future appearances.
Why introducing X-Men like in Deadpool & Wolverine could be harmful to the MCU
Deadpool 3 already introduced some mutants and X-Men in the MCU in a way. Hugh Jackman returned as Wolverine, and mutants like X-23, Cassandra Nova, Sabretooth, Juggernaut, Pyro, Azazel, and others were also featured in the movie.
However, apart from Nova, X-23, and Wolverine, none of the other mutants had any significant role in the movie apart from being fillers of the plot and some scenes. Moreover, Nova, who was an Omega-level threat, was also killed by the end of the movie quite conveniently.
This, in a way, downplayed the potential of the characters. However, it worked because the characters went according to the narrative of Deadpool 3, as the movie was purely meant for entertainment and barely focused on setting up a bigger picture.
But when it comes to the MCU, using them just for support and for entertainment purposes only might undermine their potential and possibilities. So far. MCU has introduced some mutants in Earth-616 as well, and it remains to be seen how the makers handle the future of mutants and eventually the X-Men.
Deadpool & Wolverine is available to stream on Disney+.
Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars are scheduled to release on May 1, 2026, and May 7, 2027, respectively.
