Jennifer Lopez shared a video on Instagram introducing her new beverage brand of flavored spritz cocktails, called Delola. Lopez, being sober, was chided by followers, questioning the intention of the actress to promote an alcohol brand while being aware of her husband’s rehabilitation from alcohol addiction.

“I have been grinding nonstop for decades, and more and more, I realize the importance of enjoying life. I just wanted to create something better. Better tasting, better ingredients, something I want to drink with my friends and family, and that is Delola.”

Lopez was found holding the cocktail with a straw in her mouth; it doesn’t appear she sipped the drink. Some fans even pointed out that J.Lo does not drink alcohol herself, citing her past interviews where she discussed the bad effects alcohol could have on the body.

While her choice to hold the beverage seems contrary to the statement she made to Us Weekly in 2020, “I don’t drink, smoke, or have caffeine. That really wrecks your skin as you get older.”  To note that Ben Affleck is famously sober after undergoing rehab multiple times in 2017 and 2018.

“I haven’t been a big drinker my whole life. For a long time, I didn’t drink at all.” “But I’m very particular, and I wanted [Delola] to be something that’s easy to pour over ice and drink.”

In a recent interview with Food and Wine, J. Lo claimed that she chooses to indulge in drinks on special occasions, but overall she manages to maintain a healthy lifestyle and preferably stays away from drinking.

Commenters slam Jennifer Lopez for promoting her brand despite sobriety

Various followers on Instagram have come out with many criticisms against the actress for promoting her new alcohol brand. One of them commented,

“You don’t drink alcohol!” and you expect people to believe you really picked up the habit after you married the love of your life, who is a recovering alcoholic, is a little hard to believe. It’s more likely that the timing of this new habit is due to your brand and wanting to sell your products, which is fine but unbelievable”.

One of them pinned, saying there is nothing wrong with being sober and healthy, as Lopez has always been in her life, but it’s concerning when business is used to profit from other people’s well-being by selling harmful substances.

“I love JLo but dislike that she promotes alcohol for three reasons”. Another one opined, “Alcohol is not a cool thing to promote. Secondly, she doesn’t drink alcohol herself because of all the damage it does to your body and her husband has a drinking problem. I just don’t get it! You have enough money; just stop,” the user added.

Another Instagram user also wrote in the comments section,

“Wow. I’m so disappointed and confused by the narrative that she puts out about how she doesn’t drink alcohol and all the benefits of not drinking. And her partner is sober? It doesn’t matter what type of ‘good for you ingredients’ and ‘health labels’ (gluten-free) are in alcohol; it’s still a carcinogenic toxin.”

Apart from J.Lo other high-profile celebrities have succeeded her in launching their alcoholic brands, including George Clooney, who sold his Casamigos tequila company to global beverage company Diageo for a whopping $1 billion; Ryan Reynold’s Aviation Gin; and Dwayne Johnson’s Teremana Tequila, capitalized their fame in their alcohol industries.
