The acclaimed and one of the most influential figures in the industry is a perfect example for those who believe disabilities can hinder talents. Hayek proudly acknowledges having dyslexia and explained that she didn’t let her condition stop her from achieving what he has today.

Salma Hayek Proudly Accepts Her Disability

The Once Upon a Time in Mexico star has been open about her struggles with dyslexia which troubled her the most in her teenage. Dyslexia is a disability that affects a person’s reading abilities and makes them stress on their brain and can vary in severity. Salma Hayek who has this same condition hustled with it and didn’t let dyslexia dictate her life.

The Bliss star never let her disability hinder her talent for acting and producing. She was a bright student in her school even after being diagnosed with a learning disability. According to Celebrity Spotlight, Salma Hayek shed light on her struggles and how she fought with dyslexia to accomplish her dreams. She said:

“Everybody thought I was so out of my league. The people in Hollywood were the first ones to try and discourage me. ‘Go back,’ they said. ‘You have no future here.”

Salma Hayek did not have a smooth sailing while stepping into the world of entertainment as she faced difficulties while reading and dyslexia can even result in short-term memory loss which could have hindered Hayek’s dreams. The industry lacked encouragement and motivation when she tapped in, but she refused to cease her dreams.

The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard actress takes pride in her disability and even revealed that it only takes her one time to read the scripts and work accordingly. Salma Hayek takes a long time to read and learn the content in her script but for a single time, she’s done. The Some Kind of Beautiful star said:

“Some people read really fast, but you’ll ask them questions about the script and they’ll forget. I take a long time to read a script, but I read it only once.”

She acknowledges her ability to read and understand the scripts in one go highlighting her determination and resilience against the hopelessness she received during the initial period in Hollywood. She added: “I’m very lucky I didn’t have it easy because I’ve learned so much from having to figure out everything on my own and create things for myself.”

Salma Hayek is also lauded for breaking the barriers by being one of the first Latina to have established a respectful and highly acclaimed status in the world of entertainment she started her career with shows and then landed on big projects in Hollywood. Recently the actress recalled her special bond with late actor Matthew Perry by writing about him and expressing pain on her official Instagram account.
