“You need to honor this statue”: Leslie Jones Makes Explosive ‘The Daily Show’ Debut Replacing Trevor Noah With Controversial Martin Luther King Jr. Statue Monologue
Leslie Jones sure knows her expertise as a comedian. The Saturday Night Live alum has recently joined The Daily Show after the departure of the former host, Trevor Noah. The latter’s departure from being the host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show was announced in the latter half of 2022. His departure surely was a surprise for many however the show must go on!
Since his departure, the show has planned to have several guest hosts with Leslie Jones being the first one. On her arrival, she tried her best not to hold herself with her recent comments on a controversial sculpture honoring Martin Luther King Jr.
A Statue Titled The Embrace Unveiled in Boston

The Embrace, a sculpture honors the late Martin Luther King, Jr. and his wife, Coretta Scott King.
The statue is a giant bronze sculpture that was unveiled recently at Boston Common park in downtown Boston. The statue depicts a loving embrace which is inspired by a moment of King Jr. who hugged his wife when he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.
That piece showcased only the arms and torso of the King and his wife hugging which is now creating quite a controversy as many are puzzled over its creation. Many netizens even claimed that it looks quite like male genitals making this art piece an NSFW depiction.
Amid the ongoing controversy, Leslie Jones, who is serving as the presenter for The Daily Show addressed the issue.
Leslie Jones Addressed The Controversial Martin Luther King Jr. Statue
The 55-year-old comedian-TV host, Leslie Jones shared her opinions on the controversial statue that many thought looked like a depiction of male genitals. She openly discussed the ongoing NSFW depiction claim stating that she also gets the same vibe from that statue. She herself depicted it like that and jokingly stated,
“Listen I know Dr. King went down in history, but this is not how you show it.”
She then turned on to a different camera and addressed white people,
“White people, you don’t need to be saying sh*t about this statue. You understand? Black kids only. You need to sit your a*s in the back of the bus for this one, OK? You need to honor this statue.”
She further added,
“This is our civil rights icon. Going down on his wife. You show some damn respect.”
She concluded by stating,
“In time we will see this statue for what it truly is, Martin Luther King going down on his wife. I can’t unsee it!”
She indeed has made some very bold claims during her time as a presenter for the show. Along with her, the show will also feature Chelsea Handler and Roy Wood Jr. as the other guest hosts since the departure of Trevor Noah.
