Hugh Grant is one of the most well-known actors in Hollywood. He was once the go-to actor for romantic comedies, thanks to his charming looks. The actor has worked in a range of high-grossing films like Notting Hill, Bridget Jones’s Diary, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and many more. However, he later branched out to doing more dramatic roles and gained recognition for starring in period dramas like Sense and Sensibility. Grant has received numerous accolades including a British Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and an Honorary César.

However, there was a period in his career when the Golden Globe winner was falling out of relevancy and needed a film to save his career and bring him out of mediocrity.

How did Paddington 2 save Hugh Grant’s career?

Released in 2018, Paddington 2 is highly credited with saving Hugh Grant’s career. The movie managed to make over $192 million in the global box office. Unlike his normal roles, Grant played a villainous role in the children’s charmer movie. Interestingly, the movie did not just relaunch his career, it also earned him a BAFTA nomination.

Moreover, despite starring in a wide array of movies, the Hollywood actor has been quite vocal about how Paddington 2 is the best project that he has been a part of. While speaking to Vanity, Grant admitted that his time as a flamboyantly washed-up theater actor in the movie proved to be the highlight of his career. He said:

“I genuinely believe it may be the best film I’ve ever been in.”

Hugh Grant does not seem to be happy about his role in Wonka

Ahead of the movie’s release, Grant opined on how creating his crotchety Oompa Loompa was like wearing a “crown of thorns” because of the camera rig around his head. He said (Via Metro):

“It was like a crown of thorns, very uncomfortable. I couldn’t have hated the whole thing more.”

It is worth noting that the Hollywood actor is no stranger to grumpy outbursts in front of the media. He does not enjoy shooting CGI sequences and has been vocal about it in the past as well.
