Chad Stahelski Admitted That He Asked Keanu Reeves for Advice During John Wick 

Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick, first worked with Keanu Reeves as a stuntman in The Matrix movies. The director acknowledged that his work on The Matrix movies had a significant influence on his career while speaking with Buzz Feed.

He claimed to have worked as a stuntman on The Matrix movies and to have gained a lot of knowledge from The Wachowskis’ production of those films. They greatly influenced his career and served as inspirations. “The Matrix producer, Joel Silver, let me do a couple of second-unit shots, and I learned the craft from doing that really.”

Then he thought back to the moment when Reeves had asked him to helm the John Wick movie. “I think it was four or five years on from those movies that Keanu got in touch with me about John Wick.”

When they later collided, he said, “Hey, I just received a script. Do you want to take a look at it?”

Derek Kolstad Permitted Keanu Reeves To Modify the John Wick Script

Keanu Reeves and screenwriter Derek Kolstad collaborated on the script for John Wick for two months. Reeves was the perfect candidate for the role from the beginning, especially given how far Kolstad had gotten in the selection process.

“I spent two months at Keanu’s house on the weekends working on the script,” Kolstad recalled of working with the Constantine actor. “I look in his office, I see he has three hundred screenplays stacked on his desk, because he reads everything that UTA, WME, William Morris sends out. He reads them all.”

Keanu substantially altered the plot after Kolstad made the choice to bring him on board. The exposed star told him, “Okay, Derek, I’m going to play him 35,” as his first words to him. “And I’m like, ‘Fine.'”
