“A pitch that sells itself”: The Future of Marvel Looks Dire With Blade Update Despite Making Iron Man a Household Name from Being a C-Lister Hero
Comic book fans were excited when the two-time Oscar winner, Mahershala Ali, was announced to play Blade back in 2019. Blade is a vampire hunter known for his quick jokes and even quicker swordplay. Unlike some lesser-known superheroes, Blade has a special edge. People dig stories with characters facing tough choices, and he fits the bill.
Now, everyone is super hyped to see Ali play him in the upcoming reboot flick. But Marvel’s future seems troubled, especially after the recent news of Yann Demange leaving the project (which might delay the movie’s release).
Blade Shake-Up is Troublesome for the Future of Marvel
There’s a bit of a snag with the upcoming Blade movie. The director, Yann Demange, who’s known for making tough crime films like White Boy Rick, recently left the project. This is actually the second time a director has stepped down from Blade since it was first announced.
Back in 2022, the first director, Bassam Tariq, had to leave due to scheduling issues. So far, Marvel Studios hasn’t picked someone new to take over. It isn’t exactly known why the director quit. This whole director situation makes fans wonder what the movie will be like now.
This latest news is worrisome because Marvel made C-Lister heroes like Iron Man famous beyond the comic book circle. Before 2008, the character wasn’t widely known. However, the Iron Man movies turned him into one of Marvel’s flagship characters.
Blade‘s Filming is Set for This Fall
Though, this isn’t the only setback. The movie has already faced delays. Now, after the director’s departure, finding someone new who gets Blade’s character and can make a movie out of it is super important. With the movie supposed to come out in November 2025, Marvel Studios needs to pick someone new fast if they want the movie to be as good as it can be.
But fans need not worry because the much-anticipated Blade reboot is inching closer to becoming a reality. Per Dark Horizons, filming is expected to begin this fall with a target release date of November 2025. While there’s still time to find a new director, there’s also a chance the movie could be delayed again.
This news comes after rumors of star Mahershala Ali being frustrated with the script’s development and nearly leaving the project. However, in December 2023 recent interview, Ali reassured fans that he’s happy with the current direction. “We’re working on it,” the 50-year-old told Entertainment Weekly.
Blade is set to release in theatres on November 2025!
