After Backlash Over Ms Marvel, Iman Vellani’s Future in MCU Heavily Depends on Brie Larson’s ‘The Marvels’
Iman Vellani, after being a fan of the Avengers and comics, finally entered the MCU with Ms. Marvel. She played the first Muslim superhero in the famous franchise. The 21-year-old stared as Kamala Khan in the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, which premiered on June 8, 2022, and ran for six episodes until July 13.
Vellani’s journey in the MCU has been a jolly ride. From being a fan to actually being part of the franchise, she has come a long way. However, the series didn’t see great viewership success. It was well-received by critics and fans and currently holds a 98% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Now Iman Vellani is set to star in the highly anticipated film The Marvels from Marvel Studios alongside Brie Larson. The upcoming film will play a crucial part in the young actress’s life as her future in the MCU depends on The Marvels.
Iman Vellani’s MCU Future Depends on The Marvels
Season one of Ms. Marvel served as the origin narrative for Kamala Khan’s story played by Iman Vellani. The show debuted on June 8, 2022, showcased how she acquired her abilities and laid the groundwork for her forthcoming appearance in The Marvels.
Ms. Marvel failed to get a huge viewership, hence there was no news about another season. Recently, the directors of the show, Adil El Arbi, and Bilall Fallah, gave an update on the show’s second season progress and their plans to maybe return to the MCU in the future.
In an interview with The Playlist during its The Discourse podcast, Ms. Marvel directors were questioned about where the series stands in receiving another season. Though they are interested in another season, the duo stated they are waiting on The Marvels, which prominently features Ms. Marvel.
El Arbi stated they are waiting for Brie Larson‘s film and that will decide the next step for Ms. Marvel. According to The Playlist interview, the director said,
“No, we’re waiting for ‘The Marvels,’ so that will decide what the next step will be. So we’re very much looking forward to that. I can’t wait to see it, man. It’s great to see the trailers and to see the whole family back there and Iman Vellani doing great work, so looking forward to that.”
The directors revealed their excitement to see Iman Vellani in the upcoming film alongside Larson. A Season 2 of Kamala Khan’s show would be the greatest spot to happen if The Marvels had a strong run at the box office and positioned her for more solo adventures within the MCU. For now, the future of the 21-year-old actress in the MCU depends directly on the upcoming film, as its success will clear the way for Season 2 of Ms. Marvel.
Everything to know about Iman Vellani’s upcoming film The Marvels
The Marvels from Marvel Studios, starring Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris in the titular characters, is one of the most highly awaited movies. It serves as the follow-up to the 2019 film Captain Marvel and the continuation of the 2022 television miniseries Ms. Marvel.
Elissa Karasik, who also serves as the film’s director, co-wrote the screenplay for the movie with Megan McDonnell and Nia DaCosta. The film is slated for release in November of this year as part of Phase Five of the MCU and was made under a whopping $130 million budget.
The 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Marvels will unite an unlikely superhero female trio. Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, sees shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe after an unintended consequence. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers combine with those of Jersey City superfan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. As The Marvels, this odd trio will have to cooperate and learn how to work as a team to preserve the universe.
Season 1 of Ms. Marvel is available to stream on Disney+, and The Marvels is set to be released in theaters on November 10.
