Amber Heard Makes Bizarre New Accusation, Says Johnny Depp Lawsuit Verdict is Void as It Was Held in The Wrong US State
There has been bad blood between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp for the past few years however their conflict doesn’t look like will end any soon. After losing the publicized defamation lawsuit from her ex-husband, the former has decided to challenge the latter once again by filing a new appeal against him months after the court announced the verdict.
As per the new reports, the Aquaman actress is challenging the June verdict of the defamation lawsuit in the Virginia court stating that it is held in the wrong state. Let’s get to know the whole story.
Amber Heard Claims That The Defamation Trial was Held in The Wrong State
The 36-year-old Amber Heard‘s lawyers have reportedly filed a new 68-page appeal against her former husband, Johnny Depp arguing the fact that the verdict was held in the wrong state, submitting multiple claims to validate their argument.
As per New York Times, Heard’s attorneys also argued against the jury’s decision to exclude certain pieces of evidence such as contemporaneous notes from therapists that they say document allegations of abuse.
“The trial court improperly prevented the jury from considering several separate instances in which Heard reported Depp’s abuse to a medical professional,” the lawyers stated.
They have asked the court to reverse the verdict, either by dismissing Depp’s claims or going for a new trial entirely.
Johnny Depp Won The Defamation Case This June
The bombshell defamation lawsuit was filed by the Pirates of the Caribbean star who sued his ex-wife for $50 million claiming that she has defamed him by writing an op-ed piece in 2018 in The Washington Post claiming herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” He has previously claimed that the essay the Aquaman star wrote left him struggling in the Hollywood industry.
Heard counterclaimed him for $100 million. After weeks of trial, she was found liable for defaming him with the actor winning the trial. She was asked by the court to pay him $10.35m as damages while she was awarded $2m for her counter-claims.
Regarding her counterclaim, attorneys for Depp said that his reputation had “been vindicated” by the jury.
“The jury’s emphatic favorable verdict on all three defamatory statements alleged in his complaint fully vindicated Mr. Depp and restored his reputation,” the filing stated.
During the trial, the Edward Scissorhands actor received immense support from the fans which in some reports claimed to have influenced the trial’s direction. While the Pineapple Express star was the subject of online criticism.
