South Korean actor Lee Jung-Jae made history by becoming the first Asian to win Outstanding Lead Actor at the 2022 Emmy Awards for his role as Seong Gi-hun or Player 456 in Netflix’s Squid Game. Along with the actor, director Hwang Dong-hyuk of the drama series also won the award for Outstanding Director for a Drama Series. This victory gave them a remarkable haul of six awards out of a total of 14 nominations.
Both Lee Jung-Jae and Squid Game director Hwang Dong Hyuk thanked the Korean and international audiences for watching the series in their respective speeches, and Hwang confirmed that they will be returning for the second season.
