Avengers: Secret Wars: Stranger Things Star Joseph Quinn Reportedly Beats Tom Cruise as Top Contender to Replace Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man
Marvel Cinematic Universe has announced its upcoming projects including Avengers: Secret Wars which will the final installment of Phase 6 of the MCU. There had been many speculations regarding the upcoming movie with one involving Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, who could return without undermining his character’s death.
Marvel had already introduced the concept of the multiverse all throughout Phase 4 with the movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home which featured Spider-Man’s characters from alternate universes while Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced the mutants in the franchise. With Marvel embracing time travel and Multiverse, it’s highly possible that Iron Man could return but not Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark or even the rumored Tom Cruise variant.
Who Could Be The Next Iron Man?
Robert Downey Jr. had been portraying the role of Iron Man in the MCU, who died in Avengers: Endgame to save the world from Thanos. With the multiverse in hand, Marvel could reprise the star without undermining his character’s sacrifice with Giant Freakin Robot sources have mentioned that Iron Man is set to be back in the franchise however the star would not be playing the role. Instead, a variant would reprise Iron Man’s role which is not Tom Cruise (who was rumored to be reprising the role) but Stranger Things Star Joseph Quinn.
According to the insiders, Marvel has been searching for a young actor probably in their twenties or thirties to play the role of young Stark from another universe. While they are yet to disclose the details, the outlet shared, that a Stranger Things actor “is almost certainly in the running”.
Fans have already compared Stranger Things actor Joseph Quinn who plays Eddie Munson in the Netflix series to Downey Jr. due to his uncanny resemblance. The star is in the question for the role however, there are possibilities that the franchise could be looking for a Kang variant rather than someone for the role of the younger Iron Man.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced the movie at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, which is the last installment of Phase 6 alongside Avengers: The Kang Dynasty that will hit theaters in 2025. In the canon, it follows the most powerful Marvel superheroes facing off against the most powerful villains in a memorable fight that takes place on a planet, Battleworld.
According to the reports, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Deston Daniel Crettin will be looking after Phase 6’s The Kang Dynasty, however, Marvel is planning for a different helmer for Secret Wars.
There had been no reports about the casts, however, the canon featured Thor, Wolverine, Captain America, She-Hulk, the Fantastic Four with many others.
Avengers: Secret Wars is set to come out in 2025.
