Ben Affleck’s Cameo Deleted From ‘Blue Beetle’- James Gunn Reveals the Truth Behind Recent DCU Rumors
The DC Studios film Blue Beetle, starring Xolo Maridueña as Jamie Reyes/Blue Beetle, is currently playing in theaters and is getting good reviews from critics and audiences alike. Surprisingly, the film managed to open with the highest rating for a DC Studio film released in the previous two years. The studios required a financially successful film following The Flash‘s debacle which also featured Ben Affleck as Batman, and it seemed that Blue Beetle might be it.
Due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, the actor who made the announcement a few weeks ago that he would no longer be involved in the promotion of the film asked fans to see it since only a successful first film would be given the go-ahead for a sequel. Fans who saw the movie have only had positive things to say about it, but some have noted that they were expecting to hear a familiar voice in the movie that co-CEO James Gunn allegedly deleted.
James Gunn clarifies Ben Affleck cameo rumors in Blue Beetle
Xolo Maridueña’s movie Blue Beetle was released in theatres and has been doing its job well, but ardent fans of the movie were quick to point out that Ben Affleck, who had previously played Batman in the DCEU, was said to have a ‘purely comedic’ voice cameo in the movie. They claimed that DC Studios’ co-CEO James Gunn got it removed.
James Gunn, who is active online, trying to give fans some clarity on his DC Universe that he is trying to build with co-CEO Peter Safran, decided to once again take to his social media to clarify the claims of him removing Ben Affleck’s voice cameo from the movie. He said,
“I’ve never heard of a Ben Affleck voice cameo in Beetle, nor has Peter, much less cut one. I never heard of one because one never existed (just asked the producers).”
“It’s my best s–t I have done as Batman!”: Ben Affleck on appearing in The Flash
Actor Ben Affleck last appeared as Bruce Wayne/Batman in a brief appearance in Ezra Miller’s starrer The Flash and, according to the actor, it was his best performance as Batman. He said during an appearance on the Smartless Podcast,
“It’s my best s–t I have done as Batman! I finally figured out how to play the guy! I know I quit but I got it now! Like you do the audition and you are on your way home, you are like ‘No!’ I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but there was a scene where I get saved by Wonder Woman during a conflagration with some bad guys”.
Affleck further added that Wonder Woman saves Batman with the Lasso of Truth, so what happens is that Batman divulges some of his real feelings about his life and his work. The actor said when he figured that out, it felt like he had an epiphany.
Some fans believe that Affleck could appear as Batman in Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, according to the rumors that started to circle last year. But now it has been rumored that those scenes have been removed. Fans are disappointed as they point out that The Flash could be Ben Affleck’s last outing as Batman, which is something that he does not deserve, as he deserves a proper outing.
What is Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle about?
Finally, Blue Beetle came in as a breakthrough for DC Studios, especially after The Flash tanked at the box office even though the expectations for the movie were high. Blue Beetle has been doing well as of now, gathering positive reviews from critics and audiences.
The movie follows Jamie Reyes who returns home with aspirations for his future only to discover that his home is no longer what he left. The young kid tries to make his way into the world and is on the lookout to find his purpose. He finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology,’ the Scarab.
Reyes is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor that is capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers which change his life and destiny forever as he becomes Super Hero Blue Beetle. The actor had previously expressed how grateful he is to be playing the character, adding that he would love to do more of Blue Beetle if given a chance.
Blue Beetle is now playing in theatres.
