Celebrities Who Are In Open Relationships Like Will Smith
Relationships are of many forms, and the discussions held around ‘open’ relationships haven’t been more mainstream than today. While monogamy has had the monopoly as far as the perception of society goes, our definitions of sexuality have broadened, so does our construct of a whole relationship, especially when our favorite celebrities are advocates for more unconventional marriages. From new definitions of freedom to polyamory or something totally unique, these celebrities have blurred the traditional boundaries of marriage.
Shailene Woodley and Unknown
In 2020, Big Little Lies star Shailene Woodley talked to The New York Times about having been part of an open relationship in the past.
“Listen, I’m someone who has experienced both an open relationship and a deeply monogamous relationship in my life, and I think we’re in a day and age where there should be no rules except for the ones designed by two people in a partnership—or three people, whatever floats your boat!” she said.
“But there has to be a level of responsibility in any relationship dynamic, and that responsibility is simply honesty and communication and trust. Apart from that, it’s really none of our business what people choose to do with their lives.”
Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green
Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green had a one-sided open relationship at some point, and Fox was given the freedom for a fling outside their marriage.
“They’ve agreed to an open relationship where Megan can see other men but Brian cannot see anyone else,” a source told the New York Daily News in 2009.
Nico Tortorella and Bethany C. Meyers
Actor Nico Tortorella and advocate Bethany C. Meyers are known to have a famously unconventional relationship. Although they have mixed feelings about labels, the two label themselves as “queer polyamorous”, with Tortorella even addressing his “cheating philosophy” during an interview with Cosmopolitan U.S..
“My cheating philosophy… I mean, cheating is bad, right? But I think that an open relationship or a polyamorous relationship or an understanding of sorts is acceptable in this day and age,” he said.
“And I’ve been in those relationships and sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. But cheating inherently is a terrible thing. If you’re going behind the other person’s back and if there’s any type of malice, you’re a bad person, end of story.”
Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore
Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher had an open marriage, one that reportedly made them really happy for years before they decided to separate their ways through a divorce in 2013.
“Everyone in Hollywood knows about their arrangement, but they’ve managed to keep it a secret from the general public,” a source revealed to Star in 2011.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin
As well-known for their ‘conscious un-coupling’ as they were for their coupling, Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow had an open relationship during their 10-year marriage.
As revealed by a source to Access Hollywood: “If Chris was playing around, Gwyneth didn’t care. She’s never been jealous or territorial. Her philosophy is, ‘We’re both adults. We make our own choices.”
