Did Selena Gomez Turn Down a ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ Spinoff?
Although the Wizards of Waverly place tv series came to an end back in 2012, there was a chance of there being a spin-off show. Discussing this recently Jennifer Stone who plays the role of Harper Finkle revealed that Selena Gomez had been approached for a spin-off series centering on Alex and Harper’s friendship following the end of the show.
However unfortunately it never happened as Gomez got busy with other projects of hers and therefore did not affirm to go with it. The showmakers seemed to have had much more in store for the series’ future. But as it happened none of them got realized.
Jennifer Stone Reveals That Selena Gomez Said No to an Alex-Harper Spin-off Idea
One of the most memorable tv shows, Wizards of Waverly Place brought Selena Gomez into the spotlight for her portrayal of Alex Russo. The plot revolves around the everyday lives of the Russo family where each member knows magic to some degree. Since the series wrapped up back in 2012, there have been no further shows concerning it.
But it turns out there were various ideas in store for the characters. One of them was the idea of a spin-off centered around Alex and Harper Finkle’s (Jennifer Stone) friendship. However Stone recently claimed that she was told that her co-star was pitched by Disney for the spin-off but Gomez did not affirm.
Talking on this in a recent episode of the Wizards of Waverly Place podcast Stone explained the Bad Liar singer’s possible reason saying,
“And [it was] because she had a lot of other things going on.”
According to the Santa Girl actor, this took place right after the show was wrapped up. But as it happened nothing ever came of it as of present.
A Brief Look at Wizards of Waverly Place
Wizards of Waverly Place is a teen comedy show created by Todd J. Greenwald for Disney Channel. The first episode dropped on October 12th, 2007 and the show has 4 seasons in total spread over the years from 2007 to 2012. The plot of the story centers around a teenage girl named Alex Russo (Selena Gomez) and her family consisting of mom, dad, and two brothers Justin and Max. All of Alex’s family members have magical abilities which run in the family. And with time, the kids start getting more and more into the magical stuff. The show also has a film based on it which was released back in 2009.
