Reports from reliable sources have emerged surrounding the record-low of this year’s Emmys. The 4.3 million audience marks the lowest viewership in the show’s history a 0.85 rating among adults. The previous viewership of 5.9 million was also considered a low point. Due to last year’s strikes, the 75th  award show suffered delays and faces an NFL playoff game for the first time.

The 75th Emmys marked a significant low point in its history, despite being one of the most honorable and significant award shows. According to Variety, the Emmys 2024 fell flat with a total of 4.3 million views which was hosted by Anthony Anderson. Usually, the event manages to generate excitement among fans, and considering the strong contenders and remarkable celebrities slaying the red carpet, the 2024 Emmy Awards’ viewership is indeed surprising.

The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes paused almost every significant show and film production including the Emmys. However, a viewership of 4.3 million might look massive to many, but reflecting on the history of the event, it has been extremely disappointing. Excluding the sports category, the show emerged as Fox’s most-watched Monday unscripted telecast since June 2015. The highest viewership generated by the Emmys was 7.8 million audience in 2021.

The Emmys isn’t just a show but one of the most prestigious awards, that hold the power to impact the stature of an actor. With massive fanfare,  enthusiast eagerly waits to witness the excitement and achievements of their beloved stars. Even the Golden Globe Awards generated 9.4 million viewers, which is 50% more than the year’s audience. The 2024 Emmys and the NFL game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Philadelphia Eagles were both held on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.

Following the lowest rating of the Emmys 2024 in its history, fans took no time to express their discontentment with the show, by listing distinct reasons by each fan. The social media platforms notably X (earlier Twitter) are filled with posts on the award show’s reception.

Despite the negative comments over the low reception of the Emmys 2024, it marked some of the most notable moments for actors like the win of The Bear trio. Along with Jeremy Allen White, his co-stars Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach were honored with different awards for their performance in the TV series. The show depicts the story of a resident young chef who proves to be an incredible human too while trying to keep his family’s work alive.

Apart from the awards and recognitions, the event was blessed with celebrities like Selena Gomez who appeared in the most stunning strapless silhouette, Jessica Chastain in a Gucci dress, Bill Hader flaunting his Dior men, Suki Waterhouse in a red Valentino, and other acclaimed celebrities.
