Fans have been asking that Heard be removed from the planned Aquaman sequel since the Johnny Depp case broke. They are enraged that JD has lost his gigs, particularly as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Following the 4.3 million signatures on a Change.org petition to fire Heard last week, Johnny Depp’s followers are now looking for the next Queen Mera to take her place.
A new petition has been established on Change.org. It’s for Blake Lively to take over for Heard in the Jason Momoa film. At the moment, only fans want Blake Lively to play Mera in Aquaman 2, not Amber Heard. But, who knows, maybe this may come true. The petition currently has over 5000 signatures and claims that “she (Heard) seems to have lied about being abused… she seems to be the abuser… she ruined the career of Johnny Depp bcoz of her lies.”
Fans want Blake to replace Heard in Aquaman 2
As the defamation trial nears its conclusion, a few more witnesses will be called to the stand. According to recent reports, DC Films president Walter Hamada refuted the actress’ assertions that her role in the sequel was cut. Fans, on the other hand, are clearly manifesting Heard’s replacement.
Fans signed a petition addressing Warner Bros. in order to get Blake Lively on board rather than Amber Heard. One of the fans even justified his choice saying, “After the defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard and all the negative ‘energy’ around the latest, and since Blake Lively is a much likeable actress and human being.”
A top comment under the petition reads, “Amber Heard is a vile person, and should not be privileged to portray a beloved female hero. Blake Lively is a lovely and kind person, with far greater acting talent. She is the kind of person who should portray a hero. She’s someone young girls can look up to, and should aspire to be like.” Another person wrote, “Blake Lively is a treasure, and an A grade actor. Heard is a disgrace to all the women who have been through domestic violence.”
Will Blake Lively be a great fit?
Lively is no new to the world of superhero films. Indeed, following her role as Carol Ferris in 2011’s Green Lantern, the actress has been hailed as the ideal choice for roles such as Emma Frost, Invisible Woman, and even Lady Deadpool. However, when it came to replacing Heard as Queen Mera, supporters pointed out how Warner Bros. is notorious for listening to its audience. One admirer advised, “Do not expect anything from them.” At the same time, the petition hopes that the studio will reconsider its decision to exclude the actress from the sequel to Aquaman.
Aquaman 2 has been pushed back to 2023, with production already done, in the hopes of repeating the success of the previous installment, which became a box office blockbuster generating over $1 billion, making it the highest-grossing DC picture of all time. Reshoots to include a fresh actress would be too expensive for the studio.
