Greta Gerwig’s Ambiguous Reply About a Ken Film Sets ‘Barbie’ Fans on Fire, Claims 1 Movie Was “Kenough”
Greta Gerwig is undoubtedly one of the best directors of her generation who has given viewers some incredible hits in recent years. Gerwig’s work typically involves female protagonists who tend to be remembered for long periods. Even though she had initially planned to be a playwright, she began her journey in show business as an actress and gained attention for her work in the rising mumblecore movement.
For nearly half a decade, Greta Gerwig collaborated with Noah Baumbach on his movies before making her solo directorial debut in 2016 with the movie Lady Bird, which was released in 2017. Recently, she has been frequently questioned about her future plans regarding the blockbuster movie Barbie. Her vague response about a Ken spin-off has set the internet abuzz as fans insist there is no need for one.
Fans React to Greta Gerwig’s Vague Reply about a Ken Movie
While Gerwig directed Barbie, she collaborated with Noah Baumbach as the screenwriter of the movie. This movie, based on Mattel’s fashion doll Barbie, is a fantasy comedy that sees Margot Robbie in the titular role and Ryan Gosling in the role of Ken. Both of these characters embark on a journey of self-discovery post an existential crisis.
Besides Margot Robbie’s Barbie, Ryan Gosling’s Ken gained a lot of attention, especially after Gosling coined the term Kenergy during an interview in an attempt to evade questions. During a recent interview with 60 Minutes, when Greta Gerwig was asked if there will be a movie on Ken, she said: “I mean, the truth is, you know…I guess we’ll see.”
This answer, however vague, did not bode well with most fans as they seemed to have had enough of Ken. Netizens took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts on this as one of them said: “we saw kenough of him.”
did ‘Barbie’ not star Ken enough? Maybe i watched a different film, but his experience is what drove most of the film? we saw kenough of him. he can go back to bumping coochies with barbie. pic.twitter.com/Vpe5LFuWTp

We don’t need this. Loved Ken in the movie, but that doesn’t mean we need to start making sequels or any possible spin offs

Other fans seem enthusiastic about a Ken spin-off, but the majority of them wish to have Barbie as a one-off classic movie rather than a full-fledged franchise that is just a means of making more money for the creators.
Greta Gerwig Has Been on A Winning Streak
As a director, Greta Gerwig’s first solo film was the coming-of-age comedy-drama Lady Bird, which starred Saoirse Ronan as the titular character. The movie was both a critical and a commercial success.
Ronan and Gerwig went on to work together in the film adaptation of Louis May Alcott’s novel Little Women, which had an ensemble cast featuring Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, and Timothee Chalamet, who had also appeared in Lady Bird. The movie gained widespread critical acclaim and even received six Academy Award nominations.
Then came Barbie which grossed more than $1 billion at the box office despite the competition it faced from Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. It broke several records and even became the highest-grossing film by a solo female director.
