Barbie, helmed by Greta Gerwig, was one of the most anticipated films of the summer. The film managed to create a lot of buzz thanks to rave reviews from both viewers and critics. Barbie finally landed in theaters on July 21, and fans went into a frenzy after watching the film. 

The film painted the world pink and underneath its sugary facade, tackled topics like s*xism and self-determination. Margot Robbie (as Barbie) and Ryan Gosling (as Ken) were the perfect on-screen couple and captured the audience’s hearts. As the film created a buzz among fans and performed wonderfully at the box office, speculation about the sequel emerged.

However, the brain behind the blockbuster hit Barbie has eliminated the possibility of a sequel to the movie. In an interview with The New York Times, Greta Gerwig revealed her plans of making another film. 

She said,

“I wanted to make something anarchic and wild and funny and cathartic. The idea that it’s actually being received that way, it’s sort of extraordinary.”

The filmmaker further added,

“At this moment, it’s all I’ve got. I feel like that at the end of every movie, like I’ll never have another idea, and everything I’ve ever wanted to do, I did.”

The director revealed she gave everything to Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s Barbie and there are no new ideas for now. The Little Women director said, “I wouldn’t want to squash anybody else’s dream but for me, at this moment, I’m at totally zero.”

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer with Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. clashed with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s Barbie. Surprisingly, both films are performing well at the box office and won plaudits from viewers for exhibiting cinema at its best. Barbie is leading the box office.
