“I started really resenting him”: Brad Pitt Detested Working With Tom Cruise In $223M Movie, ‘Underlying Competition’ Kept Them Apart
People act like two legends cannot co-exist together, while that might not be true, can they really be friends? The answer to this age-old question is yet to be revealed. Such is the case of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. The love-hate dynamic between the two blockbuster stars with legendary careers and many accolades under their belt has always intrigued the fans. Spanning decades, the bond between the two has grown amongst admiration, rivalry, and occasional friction. Although a bit of healthy competition is good, one experience the two actors shared with each other went a bit extreme.
While the two starred in a movie called Interview with the Vampire, reportedly the actors did not get along which led to friction that was very evident while Pitt was giving an interview to a German magazine.
Brad Pitt hated working with Tom Cruise
The 1994 film which ended up changing Brad Pitt‘s career, is not a film he is fond of. Tom Cruise was the reason why. He also contemplated leaving the project halfway because of the dreary conditions he was put under. But later reconsidered after he was threatened a million-dollar lawsuit by the studio. He also detested the working location as much as he detested his co-star at the time, Tom Cruise. The actor revealed to Nola,
“London was dark. London was dead of winter. We’re shooting in Pinewood (Studios), which is an old institution — all the James Bond films. There’s no windows in there. It hasn’t been refabbed in decades. You leave for work in the dark — you go into this cauldron, this mausoleum — and then you come out and it’s dark,”
He then went on to explain how his relationship with Cruise really is. He said,
“You gotta understand, Tom and I are… we walk in different directions. He’s North Pole. I’m South. He’s coming at you with a handshake [Pitt mimicked Cruise’s hyper-aggressive hello] where I may bump into you, I may not, you know?”
Pitt then later confessed that the reason behind the unnecessary hatred might just be the “underlying completion” between the two. He said,
“I started really resenting him”
Hollywood is indeed a very cut-throat and stressful place and the case of the two actors perfectly showcases what difficulties one might face while navigating through the industry.
Joseph Kosinski wanted Tom Cruise And Brad Pitt For Ford V Ferrari
The movie would have gone in a completely different direction if Joseph Kosinski would have been successful in executing his initial vision of bringing the two megastars Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt together. He revealed a table read also took place but some budget issues made it difficult to shoot. He said,
“And that story was one of those great stories of an incredible friendship and an incredible rivalry and an incredibly dangerous race. So we, I wouldn’t say we got close to production, but I got to the point where I had Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt at a table reading the script together, which was pretty amazing. But we couldn’t get the budget to the number it had to be at.”
Although it would have been very interesting to see the stars come back together on screen after decades. The replacements also did a great job and made the film a box-office hit.
