“I think Marvel ruined it”: Pitch Perfect Star Adam DeVine Takes a Hard Swing at CBM Studios, Blames Marvel For Ruining the Future of Comedy
Comedy has been an essential genre in the entertainment industry. Comedy films have entertained viewers for a long time. Adam DeVine, an actor, and comedian, has been the top name in this genre. He pointed out Marvel, one of the largest superhero franchises famous for its wide range of films. Marvel has produced many superhero movies and is a top and favorite franchise of fans. But Adam DeVine has a completely different opinion about Marvel.
Adam DeVine voiced his strong opinion against Marvel
Marvel is one of the richest and most famous franchises in the entertainment industry. MCU has produced many superhero films that are loved by millions of fans, all over the world. However, Adam DeVine has a different opinion about Marvel movies.
The 39-year-old appeared on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast during his press tour for Netflix’s The Out-Laws. The comedian voiced his opinion and shared his theory that Marvel films and other superhero flicks killed the classic Hollywood comedy. The Workaholics star noted that because Marvel films rely so heavily on humor like Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy franchises, they have become Hollywood’s new de facto comic pictures. He said,
“You watch comedies nowadays and you’re like, this is not a fucking comedy. Where are the jokes? Where are the bits? There’s still good [comedy] shows, but movie comedy…it’s hard.”
DeVine further shared his theory,
“I think Marvel ruined it. I feel like superhero movies ruined comedies because you go to the theatre and you expect to watch something that cost $200 million to make, and comedy movies aren’t that.”
The Pitch Perfect actor further discussed how studios used to bring out comedy films every year. He pointed there used to be 45 comedies in the theater per year. However, there has been like 6 or 7 last year, and the actor called it crazy.
Adam DeVine’s bright career in comedy
Adam DeVine’s career has seen him develop from a young comedian to a well-known actor in Hollywood. The 39-year-old had an impressive acting career. From stand-up comedian to co-creator of Workaholics, his trajectory has been nothing short of remarkable. The actor has been part of the blockbuster comedy Pitch Perfect. Its sequels, Pitch Perfect 2 and Pitch Perfect 3 rose him to fame.
DeVine’s latest film, The Out-Laws, produced by Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison studio, is more reminiscent of the old-school Hollywood comedy. Pierce Brosnan, Nina Dobrev, and Ellen Barkin star in the action-packed remake of Meet the Parents.
