“I think that would be really cool”: Not Batman, Zachary Levi Wanted This DC Hero’s Cameo in Potential Shazam 3
Shazam! Fury of Gods star Zachary Levi, reveals in an interview which DC superhero he would like to partner with.
Shazam 2 was one of the biggest flops in DC history. The movie broke all records there were, of being a failure. It was neither loved by critics, nor by the audiences. And with James Gunn rebooting the DCU, the likelihood of Shazam recasting or even the superhero getting a film of his own is not a lot.
But in an interview, Levi considered getting an opportunity to play Billy Batson again. Should the situation arise, the actor has a favorite DC superhero he would want to work with and it is not Batman.
Zachary Levi Wants to Work with a Green Lantern
Even though the DC reboot’s first phase won’t have a Shazam movie, Green Lantern will be a part of this new chapter. Hal Jordan and John Stewart will have their own series. And Levi is holding out hope that if a Shazam starrer project comes around, he would love to tie up with the extraterrestrial warriors. He said in an interview:
“Maybe Green Lantern? I’d like to see Green Lantern help us fight the hordes of undead. I think that would be really cool.”
The actor’s choice came as a bit of a surprise to the fans as Shazam happens in the same universe as Batman. When Shazam 2 was in the making, news emerged that Batman would make an appearance in the film. It ended up not happening. And Levi clearly had other plans.
Levi also pitched a third installment of Shazam, where the hero and team fight a zombie army. Levi is optimistic that things will come around and he will put on the red suit to fight evil.
The Possibility of Shazam 3
Given the absolute box office bomb Shazam! The Fury of Gods, it does not come as a surprise that James Gunn chose not to have another Shazam film or series. DCU is in the trenches, to say the least. The flop spree has not ended and Shazam 2 was a notable contributor to it. All odds suggest against it but Zachary Levi is holding out some hope, but chances are they are not coming true in the foreseeable future. It’s not happening.
However, if we consider the possibility of Shazam 3 and as Levi suggests, having Green Lantern make an appearance would be a delight. And it won’t be the first time that another DC superhero pulls through for Shazam. In the first installment, Superman cameos where Henry Cavill was present but masked. And Shazam 2 had Wonder Woman taking a figment of the total screen time.
Plans and possibilities are many but will any of this happen, Only time will tell.
In the meantime, Shazam! Fury of Gods and Shazam! can be watched on Max.
