“I think we’re ridiculous in this country about it”: Two and a Half Men Star Holland Taylor Waited Till She Was 72 to Come Out as Gay as She’s Scared of American Politics

In a candid interview, Holland Taylor spoke about different aspects of her career and discussed her sexuality like never before. The actress admitted being in a relationship with a woman at 72 which she said is a sensitive topic to address openly.

Holland Taylor Opened Up About Her Sexuality

In a 2015’s interview with WYNC’s Death, Sex & Money podcast, the Primetime Emmy Award-winning actress spoke about her sexuality and her committed relationship with a mystery woman, plus she formally confirmed that she was gay. It’s the first time The Naked Truth star openly addressed her sexuality. “I haven’t ‘come out’ because I am out,” adding, “I live out.”

Speaking about being in a relationship with a mystery woman Holland Taylor said she doesn’t want this topic to turn into a political debate. The actress stated,

“Well I feel at this point in the conversation it feels kind of awkward. Now I feel very very shy of it. I’ve been really; wrestling with this lately because most of my relationships have been with women, and I don’t like talking about them because I don’t like talking about the politics of it all because I’m not political about it. I think we’re ridiculous in this country about it. Ridiculous.”

The Two and a Half Men actress added that dating someone younger can be challenging. Holland Taylor said,

“There’s a very big age difference between us which I’m sure shocks a lot of people, and it startles me, but as they say, If she dies, she dies.”

The interviewer asked about her future plans and if she had any plans of getting married, Taylor revealed,

“I would not do that publicly. My relationship is with a woman, and I have not — given my generation, it would not be something that would automatically occur to me. But she’s mentioned it because just from a spiritual point of view, from a heart point of view … as a deed that has a very rich symbolic gesture to it, it has its attraction.”

In a previous interview, Holland Taylor’s alleged girlfriend, Sarah Paulson discusses her age gap with the actress. She said,

“I do not want to be defined by who I share my bed, my home, my soul with. My choices in life have been unconventional, and that’s my business. But I do want to live responsibly and truthfully without hiding. It’s complicated, because there is a lot of hate in this world, and a lot of good can come from quote-unquote normalizing something for people who don’t see it as normal. Our relationship represents a certain amount of hope and risk. Maybe there’s something brave in it. Maybe it encourages others to make brave choices. What else can I say? We love each other.”
