Nicolas Cage had a brief cameo in The Flash, but fans wanted to witness him more in the superhero suit. Since then, there have been rumors claiming that the actor might take on the role after Henry Cavill’s departure. However, in a recent interview, Cage clarified that he’s not entering the DC Universe and wasn’t even angry when Warner Bros. scrapped his Superman movie.

Nicolas Cage Talks About His Scrapped Superman Movie

Last year’s The Flash had some of the most iconic moments, like the introduction of Supergirl (played by Sasha Calle) and a brief cameo displaying Nicolas Cage as Superman. Fans were thrilled to witness Cage in the superhero suit and were excited about his involvement in DC Universe’s future projects. The portrayal of the younger Superman from the ’90s turned out to be extremely engaging for enthusiasts.

But before his brief cameo in The Flash happened, it was announced in 1998’s April that Nicolas Cage was set to play Superman in the movie titled Superman Lives. The makers had spent notable money on the project and were set to film the main parts. However, Warner Bros. put the film on pause due to the financial difficulties and quality of the script. As a result, Cage’s Superman film never happened.

In a recent interview, Nicolas Cage was asked by Deadline about his contentment with The Flash‘s super brief cameo, as The Old Way star never got the chance to portray Clark Kent until last year’s film:

“I wasn’t angry about the situation. I really wasn’t. I was just confused. I was mystified by what happened [in the first place], because [Tim Burton], one of the greatest directors in the world, had wanted to make the movie and already had kind of defined the way to make the best comic book-based storyline with the Batman franchise with Michael Keaton.”

Nicolas Cage mentioned that although he wasn’t furious about not playing Superman, he was surrounded with confusion as to why Warner Bros. had to terminate an incredible project that Tim Burton wanted to direct. Cage could have been an engaging Man of Steel, and Burton already has remarkable experience with crafting superhero movies like Batman. The Willy’s Wonderland star also shared that Superman Lives will remain forever scrapped.

While talking in the same interview with Deadline, Nicolas Cage also shared his thoughts over the evolution of Superman he played in The Flash and the character he was set to play. His cameo as the hero was extremely short but memorable for fans. However, despite securing the role, Cage said:

“What happened with The Flash… I wasn’t upset, I was just perplexed. I was just like, “It wasn’t what I shot,” and I was worried about it. Like, “Did you just tell me that I was witnessing the destruction of the universe so you could take pictures of me and then animate me?” Whether it was through CGI or AI, that wasn’t the conversation we had. So I was confused.”

The use of CGI in Cage’s portrayal of Superman in The Flash looked obvious to many viewers, and even the Dream Scenario star previously mentioned feeling weird. Cage also shared details about the suit that he and Burton designed for the hero. However, despite the changes in his character, it was intriguing for the actor to see himself as Superman.
