Patricia Arquette has been recognized for her role of playing a single mother in the 2014 film, Boyhood. Having delivered an intense role, she even bagged an Oscar for the same. Not just that, her acting has given her enough recognition in the industry however she has also faced failures when it comes to getting into some major projects.

Recently, she opened up about losing quite an opportunity to work with one of the most influential personalities in Hollywood, Tom Cruise. However, she also acknowledged the reason behind not getting the project.

The 54-year-old actress, Patricia Arquette made an appearance at the SAG Awards red carpet on Sunday and shared her thoughts about losing a major film, Jerry Maguire which starred none other than Tom Cruise.

She opened up about how everyone was assured that she is going to get the role in the film however it went the other way.

“Everyone was saying, ‘Oh, this is just a formality, you’re gonna read with Tom Cruise for ‘Jerry Maguire,’ but this is your part, you got it,’ and I blew it.”

She also shared her take on not getting the role in the projects.

“I’m a terrible auditioner cause I don’t feel like that’s finished work…I wanna build layers with the character and with that other person and pivot and change according to how my character feels about them from take to take.”

The actress eventually had to let go of the opportunity with Renée Zellweger was chosen for the role of Dorothy Boyd in the film. The film was not just well-received by critics but it was a commercial success. It grossed more than $273 million worldwide against its $50 million budget making it the ninth-highest-grossing film of 1996.

This was not the only project she had to lose as she shared how her “bad auditioner” trait prevented her to lose another gig which was even missed out by Brad Pitt.

The Medium actress went on to share that she almost starred in the 1991 film, The Doors alongside Brad Pitt however both of them were unable to get their spot in the film.

She told the outlet,

“I just heard on this podcast the other day our friend sent us that the casting director, that Brad Pitt and I were her choice, we were the first ones who came in to read for ‘The Doors,’ and she was like, ‘Why are we having any more auditions? They were perfect.” 

Rather than the duo that was the initial choice for the musical film, it starred Val Kilmer and Meg Ryan which received mixed reviews. Though she understands her failures, she also opened up about taking a chance as an actor and doing her best.
