“I’m not even lying”: The 1 Julia Roberts’ Rom Com Sydney Sweeney Deems as Her Favourite
Sydney Sweeney has recently debuted in the romantic comedy genre with her film Anyone But You. She stars along with Glen Powell in the film. The film’s premise is exciting, where two people most unlikely to fall in love end up doing just that. It’s cliche but in the best way.
Rom-coms are one of the most popular genres among cinephiles, and Julia Roberts has starred in some of the best ones. Doing press for the film, Sweeney talked about her love for romcoms and which Julia Roberts rom-com is her favorite.
Sydney Sweeney’s Favourite Rom-Com of All Time
When asked about what she would say her “G.OA.T rom-com” is, Sweeney answered that it would be My Best Friend’s Wedding. She said:
“I’m not even lying when I say it’s My Best Friend’s Wedding. Which is so cool because we got to see it with Dermot (Mulroney). And he hadn’t seen the movie since the premiere and it was the most special, beautiful experience.”
It is noteworthy that the film shares some similarities with Anyone But You. It is not one of the most popular rom-coms from back then. It is certainly an interesting choice.
Furthermore, Sweeney herself seems to be living her romantic comedy with her fiancee Jonathan Davino. She’s fiercely private about her relationship.
Allegedly, recent reports suggest that something is going on between her and co-star Powell. The actor broke up with his girlfriend Gigi Paris last spring while filming with Sweeney. These could just be rumors or well-thought-out PR moves. Totally makes up for a rom-com plotline.
Sydney Sweeney on Romantic Comedies
Appearing on First We Feast’s segment of Hot Ones, Sydney Sweeney talked about a myriad of things. The show is famous for having celebrities willingly torture themselves by trying to test the exceedingly low spice tolerance they have. Nevertheless, it makes up for a unique interview setup.
Talking about what she believes makes a good romantic comedy, Sweeney said:
“I think when you have two characters who you fall in love with and you want them to fall in love also. I love a rom-com where you leave the theatre and you have laughed, you have cried, you want to go and fall absolutely head over heels in love. That’s what makes a really good rom-com.”
Her perception of the genre seems fitting for the greatest of rom-coms. And for her own film too. Speaking further on the matter, the Euphoria actress revealed her favorite romcom is a Julia Roberts film. It’s not particularly surprising, considering Roberts ruled the genre in the late 90s to early 00s.
Anyone But You is available in cinemas near and far.
