“I’m not the impediment”: Oppenheimer Star Emily Blunt Wants Tom Cruise to Return for Edge of Tomorrow Sequel
Emily Blunt is one of the most versatile actresses in the entertainment industry. She has acted in a variety of films, including comedies, dramas, and action blockbusters. With her breakthrough part in the comedy-drama The Devil Wears Prada to her gripping performance in the horror-thriller A Quiet Place, Blunt has constantly demonstrated her enormous talent and variety as an actress.
The 40-year-old was recently part of the critically acclaimed film Oppenheimer. She played Kitty Oppenheimer, the wife of Cillian Murphy‘s male protagonist and scientist, J. Robert Oppenheimer. The film is breaking records at the box office. However, this was not the first sci-fi film the British actress was part of. She starred in Edge of Tomorrow, a sci-fi action flick alongside Tom Cruise. While the sequel is in talks, Emily Blunt wants Cruise to return for Edge of Tomorrow 2.

Emily Blunt wants to reunite with Tom Cruise for Edge of Tomorrow 2
Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise starred together in Doug Liman-directed sci-fi flick Edge of Tomorrow. The 2014 film was a moderate success at the box office, and since then, fans are mulling over the notion of a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow.
Blunt, who played the lead in the film, claimed she is so ready for the sequel. Before the SAG-AFTRA strike, the British actress participated in an interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast. When the host brought up the film, the actress recalled the difficulty she faced while filming Edge of Tomorrow with the heavy exo-suit.
Despite the struggle, the 41-year-old confessed she’s “so ready” to live, die, and repeat all over again. When Horowitz brought up the possibility of a sequel, Blunt expressed interest in doing another film. She confirmed reading a screenplay for Edge of Tomorrow 2 and stated her willingness to return whenever Tom Cruise is ready to make it.
The Devil Wears Prada star said,
“I wish there could be [a sequel]. There was [a script] that Doug [Liman] kind of slithered over to me… I would love to make it a reality, but I just don’t know when, or how, or how many Mission: Impossibles does [Tom Cruise] need?”
The Oppenheimer star pointing out how Cruise’s character in the film was different from his usual roles added,
“Come back to the side where you can be… you know, wasn’t he brilliant [in Edge of Tomorrow]? He was amazing as the cowardly hero… I adored him. He was the best.”
Emily Blunt, further hoping for Edge of Tomorrow 2 said, “I’m so ready. I’m not the impediment. I promise.”
Liman has already spoken warmly about his sequel intentions, having nicknamed the film Live Die Repeat And Repeat. The director is now quite busy getting ready to shoot the Top Gun star into space. So there is no telling whether Edge of Tomorrow 2 will ever really happen.
What is Emily Blunt’s starrer Edge of Tomorrow about?
Directed by Doug Liman, Edge of Tomorrow was written by Christopher McQuarrie, Jez Butterworth, and John Henry Butterworth. The sci-fi action film released in 2014 starred Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise in the lead, set in an alternate reality where Europe has been conquered by an alien race.
The screenplay of Edge of Tomorrow is adapted from the 2004 Japanese light novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. The sci-fi action flick is set in the year 2020 when Earth is invaded by an alien civilization known as the Mimics, who arrived on Earth by a meteorite in 2015.
Tom Cruise plays Bill Cage, a public relations officer with no combat experience caught in a time loop, attempting to learn from each repeating encounter how to defeat the assailants. Cage teams up with Rita Vrataski, played by Emily Blunt, to seek ways to defeat the extraterrestrials. The movie was a moderate success at the box office and garnered positive reviews from fans.
Edge of Tomorrow is available to stream on Netflix.
