Her hit single from 2022, About Damn Time preaches about growth and letting oneself go without worrying about the unknown with a repetitive line that goes like, “Turn up the music, turn down the lights.”

But in the last 48 hours or so, flashlights of cameras have been all on and aggressively over the singer following the allegations that paint her as a villain.

Lizzo Is Facing S*xual Harassment Lawsuit

Lizzo is in the hot water on the back of being sued by Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez for alleged s*xual harassment, discrimination, and creating a hostile work environment.

The lawsuit, which names Melissa Jefferson (Lizzo), her production company Big Grrrl Big Touring, and her dance captain Shirlene Quigley as defendants, puts light on some serious incidents, including the Truth Hurts singer inviting “cast members to take turns touching the n*de performers, catching d*ldos launched from the performers’ v*ginas, and eating bananas protruding from the performers’ v*ginas.”

There’s also an allegation of weight shaming, which is very surprising and ironic as Lizzo has been the target of body shaming all this time and has been a vocal figure in pushing back such narratives. Now, everything the 35-year-old has said or sung has been marked with an asterisk due to claims from her three former employees.

As expected, social media has been quick to attack the four-time Grammy winner. Even Beyonce snubbed her name from the lyrics of her Break My Soul (The Queens Remix) song during The Renaissance Tour. Although the iconic singer’s mother, Tina Knowles, denied such suggestions by highlighting that Beyonce also didn’t say her own sister’s name.

How Lizzo Reacted to Being Sued by Her Former Backup Dancers

Amid social media users’ relentless dissection of every line of Beyonce’s performance to understand her reaction as well as analysis of every allegation made by the three former backup dancers, Lizzo has finally broken her silence, insisting she isn’t the villain in this saga.

She posted her statement on Instagram that read, “These last few days have been gut wrenchingly difficult and overwhelmingly disappointing. My work ethic, morals and respectfulness have been questioned. My character has been criticized. Usually I choose not to respond to false allegations but these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous to not be addressed.”

“I am not here to be looked at as a victim, but I also know that I am not the villain that people and the media have portrayed me to be these last few days,” Lizzo added.

She also made sure to highlight that the former employees in question have already “publicly admitted” that they were told their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional.

Davis and Williams were part of Lizzo’s Amazon Prime reality TV show, Watch Out for the Big Grrrls. Both were later fired for different reasons. The third plaintiff, Rodriguez, decided to quit over the “disrespect” she faced.
