Amy Schumer’s ‘Emergency Contact’ takes a dig at the 2020 headlines. Amy Schumer has a unique way of communicating her opinions through comedy, and in her most recent Netflix stand-up special, Emergency Contact, she does just that. The comedienne-actor is not afraid to make subtle fun of the mystery that made headlines back in 2020.
In an interview, the actress also mentioned that she had mentally prepared herself for the criticism that, no doubt, would come after the stand-up special premiered on the streaming service, but that didn’t stop her from keeping her mouth shut. Although everyone has noticed Schumer’s jab at actor Alec Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria Baldwin, she also laments the poor state of women’s health care in America.

Amy Schumer says she cannot wrap her head around Hilaria Baldwin’s story
The comedian-actress Amy Schumer, towards the end of her Netflix stand-up special, Emergency Contact, says to the audience, “Do you guys know who Hilaria Baldwin is?” The actress then changes her accent to Spanish and says “I’m saying it wrong. I’m sorry. Hilaria Baldwin. I just can’t wrap my head around this story.”
She explains that she met Baldwin years ago backstage at Saturday Night Live when Baldwin told her that she was from “’ from España,’ (with) a very thick Spanish accent.” Schumer revealed that Alec Baldwin attempted to introduce them to each other she saw her and politely declined and explained, “I’m trying to hang on to my self-esteem, OK. She is a tiny, Disney princess, and I look like Ben Roethlisberger from most angles.”
Schumer further said that they have a von Trapp number of children, and the couple has named their children with very Spanish names like Jamón, Croqueta, and Flamenco, adding that all of this would be fine and beautiful if she was actually from España.
Schumer then goes on to tell the audience, “‘Hilaria from España’ is actually Hillary from Boston. This woman is in no way Spanish. Her parents are not from Spain. No one in her life is from Spain. You’re going, ‘What?!’ Did you think I was just doing a racist Spanish impression?”

The actress, who had already made the audience giggle with her interpretation of Baldwin’s claim that she was of Spanish descent, presented her theory on how Baldwin might have come to that conclusion.
Schumer said, “So, I’m not trying to bully a sociopath. I have a point, OK? I think what happened was she went to Spain. And I’ve been lucky enough to go to Spain. Some of you have been. It’s great, right? Don’t you love it? I loved it, too. But Hillary from Boston … loooved it!” Schumer reverts to the Spanish accent before declaring “I am going to be from it!”
I Feel Pretty actress says that her point is that all the evidence points that Baldwin, since meeting her husband, has straight up pretended to be from Spain and her husband shot someone (Alec Baldwin was accused of shooting cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and he has continued to deny the accusations. Charges were dropped in April. ). She continued that neither of them care about the other’s transgressions in their marriage cared, so her advice to people would be to find someone who can stand you.
Hilaria Baldwin apologized for the confusion about her upbringing
Baldwin claimed back in 2020 during a podcast interview that she was born in Mallorca and raised in Boston, further stating that she moved to the United States when she was 19 years old to attend New York University.
Alec Baldwin’s wife has since apologized for the confusion and admitted in an Instagram post at the time that the culture, languages, sexual orientations, religions [and] political beliefs are allowed to be fluid. She said that there was a lot of back-and-forth her entire life and she feels really lucky that she grew up speaking two languages and she is trying to raise her kids the same way.
She added in her post, “Being vulnerable and pushing ourselves to learn and grow is what we’ve built our community on, and I hope to get back to the supportive and kind environment we’ve built together.” In the same Instagram post, husband and actor Alec Baldwin commented and said that she never claimed that she was from Spain adding that she had always maintained that she was born here.
