“It makes the Marineford arc look like nothing”: Eiichiro Oda’s Comments for the Final Saga Already Proves There Won’t Be Anything Like One Piece in the Future
One Piece has numerous arcs, spanning over decades, that hold a special place in the hearts of many fans. However, among them, Marineford Arc is considered to be the most popular and loved by the major population of One Piece fans. The rise and death of major characters in the Marineford Arc left a bittersweet feeling in the fans’ hearts.
However, Eiichiro Oda recently confirmed that the Final Arc of One Piece will surpass Marineford Arc, which stoked the fans given that Marineford Arc is held in such high esteem. As the series enters its Final Arc, fans expect an escalation in the intensity and the resolution of the mysteries in One Piece.
Why Is The Marineford Arc So Popular?
With Luffy involved in a war with warlords, admirals, and emperors of the sea, fans witnessed how much Luffy had to grow within a short duration. Although our beloved protagonist survived the war, the events of Marineford Arc left a strong impression on the fans, as with it dawned the new era of pirates and the greatest war since the great pirate era.

Not only is the Marineford Arc packed with action and tension, but it also introduces some legendary characters and explores the characters of Luffy, Ace, and Garp. The arc is mindblowing as Luffy fails to succeed despite his best efforts, which pushes him to become stronger.
The death of Portgas D. Ace also added to the mix of emotions and led to the greatest war in the pirate era. The arc managed to keep all the fans on the edges of their seat amidst the rising tension. Seeing Luffy brokenhearted after Ace’s death elicited visceral reactions from the fans. The post-time skip is as intense as it is because of the Marineford Arc, and the death of Ace, making it memorable for the fans.
Oda Addresses The Final Saga of One Piece
Although Marineford Arc is regarded as one of the best arcs of One Piece, Oda has already written great arcs post-time skip. So it doesn’t come as much of a surprise to fans that the Final Arc is going to be far better. For example, the recently-written Wano Arc is considered to be Oda’s best arc yet by many fans. And indeed, the storytelling in the Wano Arc is far superior to the other arcs.
Furthermore, at the beginning of the Final Arc, the Egghead Island Arc has been gobsmackingly good so far, which raises the fans’ expectations. Egghead Island has surprised fans with one event after another, keeping them on their toes. And even though it is only the beginning of the Final Arc, fans already know that they are in for a treat.
Oda himself addressed that the Final Saga of One Piece is going to exceed fans’ expectations of the series. This is what Oda had to say about the Final Saga:
“One thing that motivates me to keep drawing One Piece is that I want to draw the Final Saga. The Final Saga will be so amazing that it makes the Marineford arc look like nothing. Marineford arc was just a side trip to me. I didn’t expect it to be so popular.“
With One Piece in its last stretch, fans are eager to see the secrets unveiled that have kept them awake for years. And if the latest release is any indication, it only proves the genius behind the legendary series.
One Piece is available to read on Viz Media and the series can be read for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1112, is set to be released on April 21, 2024.
