“It was out of place”: Jim Parsons Hated Leonard and Sheldon’s Deleted Big Bang Theory Sperm Bank Scene

The responsibility to make a show watchable lies on the shoulders of the writers. A particular scene goes through many rounds while being prepared in the writers’ room. The popular sitcom The Big Bang Theory is one such series that had some very uncertain storylines.

Though the series became a massive hit, scenes behind the camera were not always very smooth. There were scenes in the series that had to be cut as the portrayal of the characters didn’t fit well. Actor Jim Parsons previously spoke about the necessity of eliminating the scene from the series.

The Big Bang Theory’s character lacked compatibility

The renowned American television sitcom Big Bang Theory was a massive hit of its time. The characters of the show became household names, yet things were not as easy as they seemed on the screen. Often, the storyline of the show got so messed up that the creators regretted it. There was a scene in the series that featured Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper and Johnny Galecki as Leonard Hofstadter at the sperm bank. The scene didn’t go as planned and was removed before becoming a topic of public criticism.

In the scene, both actors were not at all compatible. Although it didn’t create a fuss as the characters of Sheldon and Leonard were not renowned at that time. However, during the time of its release, the creator of the show, Chuck Lorre, removed the test scene from the episode as the characters of Sheldon and Leonard didn’t align well with the scene.

Jim Parsons agreed to the necessity of removing the scene 

Jim Parsons, who played the character of Sheldon Cooper, agreed with the creator’s decision to remove his particular scene. He said,

“At the time, the sperm bank scene didn’t bother me. Looking back, it was out of place, but there was no way for the producers to know… Nobody knew who Sheldon was yet, so the live audience accepted it for what it was.”

The 50-year-old actor further explained that now, when he looks back, the whole scene seems irrelevant. Hence, Lorre’s decision to remove the scene was indeed necessary, as the episode was much better without the sperm bank scene.
