- He has starred in some of the most movies and shows including How I Met You Mother.
- He rose to fame with the show True Blood and has since starred in many great projects.
Joe Manganiello has been in Hollywood for almost three decades now. He may not be as popular as some other A-list actors, but he has surely got the range that cements his status as one. From guest appearances in the CSI franchise to briefly starring as Deathstroke in the DCEU, he has come a long way.
Last year, he was making headlines for his split from Sofia Vergara to whom he was married for nine years. This year he is still making headlines but for an entirely different reason as it was recently announced that he will be portraying Mr. 0 in Netflix’s One Piece live-action adaptation. Fans impressed by this casting choice might want to explore some of his other projects so that they are somewhat prepared for what is heading their way.
Brad
How I Met Your Mother is one of the most popular sitcoms in the history of TV shows even though the ending went a little sideways leaving fans disappointed. While Manganiello did not have a lead role in the show, he appeared in multiple episodes in 4 of the show’s 9 seasons.
The actor played the role of a lawyer named Brad, Marshall Eriksen’s (Jason Segel) friend from law school. He was instrumental in several important plotlines, and somehow often ended up topless in the episodes. Besides showing off his fit body, he brings forth some comic relief during his appearances.
Alcide Herveaux
Manganiello appeared as a werewolf named Alcide Herveaux in the fantasy horror show True Blood. Based on Charlaine Harris’ novel series The Southern Vampire Mysteries, the show follows the story of Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress, who falls for a 174-year-old vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) in a world where vampires are trying to make their existence known to mankind.
Alcide also becomes Sookie’s love interest in the later seasons after making his entry in the third season in which he was a recurring character. In the next four seasons, he was one of the main characters. However, he was killed off in the final season while trying to protect Sookie. It was this show that catapulted the actor to fame.
Big D*ck Richie
The Magic Mike films are widely known for the interesting plot they brought forth to the audience and the wonderful choreography too. Although Channing Tatum led the movies, the What to Expect When You’re Expecting actor also showcased his comedic side and dance skills as Big D*ck Richie.
The films revolve around Tatum’s Adam who entered the world of male stripping. Manganiello also portrayed one of these strippers for the first two films of the trilogy. The movies rightfully earned a huge deal of critical and commercial success.
Joe Manganiello
As the name suggests, Pee-wee’s Big Holiday is an adventure comedy film that stars Paul Reubens’ comedy character Pee-Wee Herman in the lead role. It is the second standalone sequel to 1985’s Pee-wee’s Big Adventure and stars Manganiello as a fictionalized version of himself.
There are not many actors who can pull this kind of role but he does it well. In the film, he convinces Pee-wee to leave Fairville and go on a world tour. At the end of the film, the duo reunite at Manganiello’s birthday party in New York. Albeit a little surprising, their friendship is sweet.
Burke
Rampage is one of those movies that’s exciting and stupid at the same time. Based on the eponymous video game series, it follows Dwayne Johnson in the role of Davis Okoye, a former US Special Forces soldier, tasked with stopping a mutated crocodile and wolf from destroying Chicago.
Manganiello stars as Burke, the leader of a private military group whose primary concern is getting his way rather than stopping the beast from wrecking havoc in the country. His role is not too big, but it certainly showcases his versatility as he effortlessly switches between drama, comedy, and action.
Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, the Magic Mike films, How I Met Your Mother and Rampage are available for streaming on Netflix. True Blood is available for streaming on Hulu.
