Johnny Depp’s daughter, Lily-Rose Depp, has set foot in the Hollywood industry with her talent and hard work. Yet like any other star kid, she has also been targeted for belonging to a privileged group. Lily-Rose Depp condemns the allegation of nepotism
Being the daughter of the super-talented actor Johnny Depp is indeed a blessing, but being associated with him even jinxed Lily-Rose Depp’s image in the industry, as she was seen as a mere nepotism kid who got established in the industry by her father’s name.
Depp made her debut in the film The King alongside Timothée Chalamet. She proved her talent, as in 2017, she was nominated for a most promising newcomer at France’s César Awards. Yet this wasn’t enough for the audience, and they continued trolling her for being a privileged kid. Being cognizant of all these accusations, she said in an interview with a media outlet,
“I’m familiar. The internet seems to care a lot about that kind of stuff. People are going to have preconceived ideas about you or how you got there, and I can definitely say that nothing is going to get you the part except for being right for the part. The internet cares a lot more about who your family is than the people who are casting you in things. Maybe you get your foot in the door, but you still just have your foot in the door. There’s a lot of work that comes after that.”
Lily-Rose Depp is the daughter of Johnny Depp, whom he shares with her ex-girlfriend Vanessa Paradis. Since her debut in the film industry, she has been targeted for being a nepotistic kid, but these trolls didn’t shun her light. The 24-year-old actress has always been very agile when responding to these allegations. She shut down all the trolls by stating,
“It’s weird to me to reduce somebody to the idea that they’re only there because it’s a generational thing. It just doesn’t make any sense.” If somebody’s mom or dad is a doctor, and then the kid becomes a doctor, you’re not going to be like, ‘Well, you’re only a doctor because your parent is a doctor.’ It’s like, ‘No, I went to medical school and trained.’”
Rose Depp began her acting career with a minor role in Tusk, released in 2014. Since then, the actress has bagged many lead roles in her career. Depp might have started as Johnny Depp’s daughter, but she has maintained her position in the industry with her talent and hard work. The actress will be seen starring opposite Canadian singer The Weekend in her upcoming web series, The Idol, which will release on June 4 on HBO.

Lily-Rose Depp avoided talking about Johnny Depp’s controversy

However, Lily-Rose Depp kept herself away from this drama, as she doesn’t want to be defined by the men in her life. The Voyagers star explained why she prefers being silent on her father’s controversy. She said,
“When it’s something that’s so private and so personal that all of a sudden becomes not so personal … I feel really entitled to my secret garden of thoughts. I also think that I’m not here to answer for anybody, and I feel like for a lot of my career, people have really wanted to define me by the men in my life, whether that’s my family members or my boyfriends, whatever. I’m really ready to be defined for the things that I put out there.”
Rose Depp rarely makes any remarks about her father’s life. Although, recently, both the father and the daughter were present at the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of their respective films, Rose Depp spoke about her father. The actress referred to her father’s upcoming film, Jeanne du Barry, which received a seven-minute standing ovation at the event. Rose Depp mentioned that she is happy for her father.
