A new anime called Jurassic Shadows has just been announced, and it’s already looking good. The anime is being created by the director of The Apothecary Diaries, and yes, as the name suggests, there are going to be dinosaurs in it. If that doesn’t surprise you, you will also see Ninjas in the anime.

Let’s dive into everything we know about this anime, including the release date, streaming information, and details about what the preview of the anime shows, the people involved in the production, and the plot of the anime.

As this anime has just been announced, there is no release date or window for it. All we’ve gotten is a teaser visual, a plot reveal, a teaser, and some staff comments. However, the official website and X account for the anime are both live, so that’s the best place to keep up with updates as they roll out.

Streaming platforms haven’t been confirmed yet either, but given the pedigree of everyone involved and how The Apothecary Diaries performed internationally, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this pop up on major platforms like Crunchyroll once a release window is locked in.

For now, all we can do is wait and keep refreshing the official site for news. But based on the PV alone, Jurassic Shadows already feels like one of the most exciting new original anime announcements this year, and honestly, we’re already counting down the days.

What Is Jurassic Shadows About?

The plot of this anime is absolutely wild, and we can only scratch our heads wondering how the creator came up with it. This anime is set in Tokyo in the year 2029, and the story goes that dinosaurs never actually went extinct! In fact, not only did they live, but they also mixed their DNA into humans, and are now living because of that.

So now, in the anime, there are characters that are half human and half dinosaur. It is opening up a lot of room for creativity as there is not a single type of dinosaur to begin with – there is a whole bunch of them. And this leads to chaos as well, which is being handled by a secret group of ninjas, who can also use Dinosaur powers.

So basically it’s humans with dinosaur powers versus other humans with dinosaur powers, and the survival of two species is on the line. It’s giving battle anime energy but with a genuinely fresh hook that we haven’t really seen done before.

Who Is Behind the Production of Jurassic Shadows?

The wild plot is not the only reason that this anime is getting all the attention. After all, it is being directed by the director of The Apothecary Diaries. The anime is being made by Cannon Code, with the original work credited to SANB. Kenta Ihara is the one handling the scripts here, which is good news, as he has already written a perfect screenplay full of chaos for Saga of Tanya the Evil.

Yukiko Nakatani, who worked as a character designer on The Apothecary Diaries, is doing character designs again, based on original concept art by Yoichi Amano, who is a manga artist known for his work in Weekly Shonen Jump. Misato Aita, also from The Apothecary Diaries, is doing color design, and Shuhei Mutsuki, who composed music for Lycoris Recoil, is on soundtrack duties.

Is There a Trailer or Teaser for Jurassic Shadows?

アニメ『竜化粧の忍』プロジェクトPV

Yes, and it’s just as wild as you’d expect. It shows people fighting and flying using dinosaur powers. Furthermore, the horror of dinosaurs is also perfectly conveyed as we see a character getting eaten by a dinosaur inside a house at night. It’s like a house geko suddenly grew large and developed more bloodlust.

Visually, it reminded me of Call of the Night, mainly because of how the entire PV was set at night, and yet, somehow, everything still feels bright and vivid instead of gloomy. The contract alone makes this PV stand out.

There’s also a nostalgic hit buried in there. Something about dinosaur powers combined with ninja action is giving Dinosaur King vibes, which is a deep cut for anyone who grew up watching that anime. It’s not a copy by any means, but that little spark of nostalgia definitely sneaks in while watching the PV.
