Keanu Reeves Speaks Only 380 Words in 169 Minutes Long John Wick 4 and He Can’t Blame the Scriptwriters For That
The John Wick fever has already gripped the world- all thanks to the John Wick: Chapter 4 working wonders at the box office. With an interesting storyline and power-packed action sequences, Keanu Reeves is back in momentum. Especially given that the actor himself has performed ninety percent of the stunts in the movie. According to rumors in the tinsel town, there is now a possibility of another addition to John Wick: Chapter 4.
The phrase ‘Action Speaks Louder Than Words’, fits very well with the character of Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 4. The Speed actor is seen communicating more with action stunts instead of dialogues in the movie. Despite being the main lead in the movie, Keanu Reeves has fewer dialogues in his screen presence. In the era of instant selfies and social media presence, The Matrix star loves to keep his life low-key. He is known for his philanthropic acts and simple behavior, untouched by his stardom. The John Wick actor himself is a man of few words and more action.
Keanu Reeves Had More Dialogues Initially In John Wick: Chapter 4
What is a movie character, without their dialogue? The words and lines spoken by our favorite characters and superheroes stay with us for the longest time. This is just not valid in the case of Keanu Reeves, John Wick: Chapter 4. According to the Wall Street Journal, Keanu Reeves has only 103 lines of dialogue, which makes up to 380 words over a runtime of 169 minutes. The Wall Street Journal wrote-
“In the first installment, clocking in at 101 minutes, Mr. Reeves said a total of 484 words. With a run time of 169 minutes, the fourth movie pushes three hours but features just 380 words by Wick. About 10% of them are featured in the movie’s trailer, which makes the hero seem almost chatty; Wick says more in that 2.5 minute clip than he does in the first 25 minutes of the movie itself.”
According to Chad Stahelksi, Keanu Reeves tweaked roughly half of the dialogue written for his character in the initial script of John Wick: Chapter 4. During a scene between Marquis de Gramont and John Wick, the protagonist had 50% of his dialogue in the movie. Keanu Reeves went on to cut down a large part of the dialogue in this scene too.
“You and I left a good life behind a long time ago, my friend.” is the longest dialogue in the movie delivered by Keanu Reeves in a scene with his co-star Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays Shimazu Koji.
Well, it is evident that John Wick’s actions are more than enough in comparison to his words.
