King Charles III, 75, recently informed his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, about his cancer diagnosis, prompting speculation that the Duke of Sussex may travel from his home in California to London to visit his ailing father.

The King found out he had cancer after having some tests done related to a separate prostate problem he was having. According to the official statement from Buckingham Palace, Charles has started getting treatment for cancer and will keep on working and doing some public events while getting treatment.

According to People, sources close to the royals say Prince Harry is planning to fly over to the UK “in the next few days” to see King Charles as he goes through cancer treatment.

There haven’t been many details made public about what type of cancer King Charles has and how serious it is. However, palace officials said they are “completely confident” about his prospects for treatment and recovery. Of course, being 75 years old likely raises some risks connected both to his age and the cancer.

It’s not clear yet whether Charles will be able to travel around the country for events during his treatment period or if he’ll need stand-ins to handle some royal duties. But the Palace said he’ll continue getting his usual boxes of state documents every day that need his review and signature.

The Palace decided to announce the cancer diagnosis partly to stop rumors and speculation, but also to raise more understanding about how cancer affects people at all levels of society.

What Will Prince Harry Do Once He Gets to London?

Prince Harry

Prince Harry moved away from the UK back in 2020 to California with his wife Meghan Markle, and has only been back to Britain a few times since then for short visits. Before stepping back from his royal duties, he lived full-time in the UK.

As founder of the Invictus Games he was already planning to head across the Atlantic soon for 2023’s Invictus Games launch event in Canada next week. But sources say when he heard about his father’s illness he decided to change his travel plans and leave sooner.

While back in Britain, Harry will likely spend time visiting King Charles during his treatments as well as attending to his Invictus Games commitments and events. He may also catch up in person with Prince William and other royals who are rallying around the King.

The visit will be an important moment since Harry left his royal duties behind and has discussed strains with the family in interviews. However, sources claim he was able to rebuild his relationship with his father over the past year.

Prince Harry ABC News

Beyond just being there for moral support, Prince Harry has firsthand experience dealing with serious health troubles from when Meghan Markle had a miscarriage. He also had close brushes with death during his military service in Afghanistan.

So while he won’t be directly involved in making decisions about treatments, Harry can relate to the emotions his father must be feeling after getting challenging medical news out of the blue. He may be a listening ear, provide company during procedures, or share advice on coping and self-care as Charles goes through this difficult period.

Seeing his caring son may also lift King Charles’ spirits at this time as well. Despite criticism thrown at Harry, his father has always talked about the love he feels for both of his sons.
